Mission Space Question

I would love to ride Mission Space, but am terribly afraid of getting sick. I was planning to take some Dramamine & I was wondering if anyone has still gotten sick even after taking Dramamine.

I was afraid of getting sick as well, although I didn't go the dramamine route. I had some friends who had been on the ride a few months before us and their advice was to "follow the directions you're given." In other words, look straight ahead, etc. I did this and was fine on the ride. DH didn't go the first trip, but did on the second and he didn't fare quite as well as I did. Sorry I can't answer the dramamine question. ::MinnieMo

I don't usually get motion sick, but was till worried. However, I followed the directions like previously mentioned and was fine.

My BF sometimes gets motion sick, but he was okay too. He didn't want to ride it 2 times in a row, but would do it again later in the day. :goodvibes

If you are taking dramamine, I would go for it! :wizard:

I really do not do well on motion sim. rides. Body Wars almost killed me. However on our last trip I had to go on Mission Space. I followed the direction to the letter and was fine. DW was more bothered by the cramped conditions. Try it once (not after PSB).

Also, make sure you don't eat before or even after for a little while. My sister and mom were fine on the ride but they ate a snack directly after and didn't feel so hot for awhile. Other than that, just follow the directions and you'll be fine. My sister though, who has severe motion sickness, does take dramimine before going on the ride as well so I think it's knowing how you usually react to motion and dealing with it the best you can. Enjoy the ride - it is one of the best!

Rode it for the first time last Friday. I was so looking forward to it, but I started feeling very disoriented from the beginning of the ride. I did try to keep looking forward, but it didn't help too much. I didn't feel sick; just VERY dizzy. DH had a great time. I won't ride it again.

 I did everything that the previous poster said and it didn't help. I even took the dramamine and that didn't help either. I got very sick had to go to first aid and rest for an hour. After that I went back to the resort to rest. DH and DD were fine. I will never do it again :sad2:  .

Can anyone tell me if there is any simulated spinning in this ride? I am prone to motion sickness, and spinning always KILLS me. At Islands of Adventure, I rode the Hulk with DH (the corkscrews didn't bother me that much - but I wasn't happy) and then we rode Spiderman right after that, and that ride SPINS! Needless to say, I was stuck laying on a bench for almost an hour, with creepy clown music playing over and over again. :rotfl2: It truly was a horror night.

So back to Mission Space. I want to ride it with DH. If I don't feel too well, could I close my eyes and not feel anything? Is there spinning?

I'm sorry to hear it made you sick. I was that sick after that Spiderman ride. It really is stinky when you get sick like that - and everyone else wants to have fun. :sad2: There's nothing worse than motion sickness!

I'm too nervous to try it. Body Wars, Star Tours and the Tea cups bother me. My dh and ds told me, after going on the tea cups that I'd be ok because you don't have to spin the inner wheel...I couldn't wait to get off.

I'm afraid that even following the directions, I won't feel well and combine that with the august heat and humidity...no thanks.

BTW, someone correct me if I'm wrong but someone asked about closing their eyes if not feeling well...I've heard that it doesn't help and can make one feel worse...is that true?

Mostly, I don't do drops. I don't do corksrews, but I can handle a little spin. I was surprisingly fine on Space. You can't see that you are spinning, so your mind can't process it the same. I felt a little off for a few minutes afterwards, but Space was very the FIRST ride we went on for the whole trip! If you are concerned, I'd wait until you are a few days into your trip to do Space. I waited until the end of our trip to do Space Mountain (yes, I am a whimp.) for the first time, and then I loved it. I think it would have been much worse If i'd tried it the first day. But if the teacups really make you sick, then maybe you should just go to the post-show.

My poor Dad  He took my kids and my Mom on, well let's just say my Dad is a practical joker, when they got on he was fooling around pretending to get sick in the barf bags, the kids thought it was funny! Little did he know he know the joke would be on him~literaly~. The workers were so nice, took him into a wash room and even gave him a clean t-shirt! I don't think he will be going on this June when we go back!

Is there something you can compare this ride to? Does it flip you upside down a lot? I really dont' get sick but sometimes on those "dizzy" type of carnival rides I get headache.

Don't quote me on this, but I don't believe the ride goes upside-down (not sure though). Before you get on and you are waiting outside in the loading area, it shows a small video about how the ride spins around. You are in a "pod" thing at one end of a large spinning "rod." You load, and the rod starts to spin fast (you can't really tell though, because you can't see outside, all you are looking at is a movie screen of what it would look like in a spaceship). It feels like you are taking off in a rocket, and then you almost feel weightless - this is the effect of the fast spinning pushing your body. My dad is prone to motion sickness, but he did it once and was ok. My sisters and I loved it, though! They all say to just look straight ahead at your screen. It also helps to pay attention to the "task" you are given during the ride...it takes your mind off of the spinning because you are waiting for your instructions! That is just my experience. Dramamine may or may not help (it usually helps my dad), so take that and try not to think about it. Try to enjoy it! :)

I know some people get motion sickness  but IMHO the constant talk about how MS will make you queasy is ruining the ride for people who are thinking of trying it for the first time. If you are on the fence about trying MS, and haven't had trouble with other spinning rides then definitely give it a try! I'm not a big fan of the Teacups but I enjoyed MS :confused3 I even tried to do everything they say not to do ( I leaned forward, I looked to the left and right, and I closed my eyes) none of these things made me nauseaus or dizzy. So in closing I would say unless your sure spinning rides effect you negatively give MS a try.

Thanks so much, Yes this is a spinning ride. You don't know it can't see the spinning. But it's there :flower1: .

Did this ride for the first and last time last week. I do not do Body Wars or Star Tours well. I have motion sickness really bad on those rides. But that said I decided to try MS one time. I did not take any meds but listened to the directions explicitedly. Did not have any problems on the ride, however after the ride I felt a little queasy after ward. I found that if I kept walking I felt better. Unfortunately my DH and BIL decided to look in the store afterward which did not help. The unpleasant feeling did not last very long after. But do not eat before hand.
