Just want opinions on whether this is a good ride for a 7 year old or too intense. He loves space, but the reviews have me nervous. We'd take the less intense ride, but I am still nervous. Anyone have experience with this ride? :confused3 Would it be like Star Tours at all?

I can't give you a comparison between Star Tours and Mission: Space (green) because we didn't do Star Tours.

We rode the green side last year because I was too afraid to ride the orange side! :rotfl: My 6 y/o DD did very well on it and loved it. My DH doesn't do spinning rides and he had no problems.

My DD4 did it for the first time a few weeks ago. She loved it.

It is VERY different from Star Tours. With Star Tours you are in a fairly open "room" with lots of people, but it is a very jerky ride.

In Mission: Space, you are in a MUCH smaller, enclosed space with just 3 other people, and you can barely see them because you have an over-the-shoulder restraint like on inverting rollercoasters (like RNRC). But the simulation is smoother.

Much less danger of any motion sickness issues than on Star Tours.

I would think the only issue might be for a child (or adult) who is somewhat claustrophobic. You are much more confined than on Star Tours.

My (then) 7 yr old did both in January! She loved them both! Did Star Tours 4x! Did M:S 2x and wanted a 3rd but we didn't want to wait .... A tip for riding Star Tours - always look at the screen! If you look away from the screen you are more likely to feel sick!

The green side is very similar to Star Tours, I think, in terms of the movement and visuals. As others have said, the capsule is confined, so it could be a problem if you are very large (my dad who is 6'2" and 300 lbs felt very uncomfortable) or are claustrophobic. I was nervous when I rode it, and my worries made it worse than it was because I was waiting for something 'intense' to happen. It didn't. I too loved space when I was a kid, and it would have been my favorite ride had it been around then. :thumbsup2

Mission Space (non-spinning side) was one of DD's(5 at the time) favorite rides on our most recent trip. I agree with PP's that other than the fact that you are in an enclosed area, it is definitely less naseau inducing than Star Tours. :thumbsup2

My DS8 absolutely LOVED both Star Tours and Mission... he got a kick out of being the "navigator" and rode it 3x. He is a bit of a nervous nelly...(what's going to happen mom)?? and he did just great. I don't think your DS will have a problem riding the green side. The warnings are more frightening than the ride!!! Have fun!

The kid will love it. Myself, one time on the full simulation was enough for me. I love rollercoasters but that ride had me with the cold sweats for about an hour after the ride in 90 degree weather.......Not cool. I felt so .........old.

My DD loves all the roller coasters but hated Star Tours and won't go back on (she was 6 when she went on). I think it was the darkness and the thought something scary would happen rather than the motion. It took her until last fall to build up the courage for Haunted Mansion (we now know all the ways out!) but now it's on her "must do" list.

We're going to try MS (non spinning) when we go to Epcot in October.

I don't do well with motion rides, but this one was extremely mild. In fact it was fun, but I thought it would be a little more interesting. I guess when you take the spinning away it loses it's kick. I don't think anyone would have a hard time with this one. I did Star Tours years ago and that made me very sick, but this one is very mild.

However, if anyone is claustraphobic, then they might not like the coffin like feeling of this ride. I went on this ride 4 times and the last time, there was a 3 minute delay and we were in there with the doors shut, and the console pushed up to our faces and the air that blows in your face was on low and I really thought I was going to freak out. It was worse then having an MRI done.

They have these bars that come over you and the console comes very close to your face. When the ride is on, they blow cool air in your face and you get caught up in the ride, but when we were waiting with the doors shut and the screen close to the face and nothing was happening it was a very claustraphobic feeling. Because of this I probably won't do it again.

The mild side will be fine for him. My 5 year old loved it last year and is talking about he can't wait to go into space again. :thumbsup2
Really it doesn't spin at all-
The Orange side- well that's another story. Honestly I think my son could do that one but no way can I again. Once was more than enough for me.

My ds loved both sides at 6 and 7--orange and green. I don't think I'll ever ride the orange side again, though--the green side is good enough, and I don't have to take Dramamine to keep from feeling yucky!

My 7 yr.old nephew loves Green Team M:S.
To be honest, I think he gets as caught up in the story line, as he does in the actual ride. There was much concern about which family member should be the Pilot, Navigator, Commander or Engineer. ;)

My DD7 loved MS:Green on our last trip (she was 6 at the time), and she's a fairly fearful child when it comes to things like rides. It isn't as rough as Star Tours, but more intense as far as a really believable simulation.
