Mission Space Inside Wait Question

As you are waiting in line for Mission Space, very close before they let you go into the "ready rooms" to watch the video, there is a glass-enclosed room to the right of the queuing lines. There are always CMs in there looking at computer screens and of course there are all sorts of blinking lights and buttons. Does anyone know if this has a real purpose or is it just for effect?

That is the ACTUAL control panel/room for the ride! I remember reading about this in an article about the ride and found it quite awesome!

If you look closely in the control room, I believe you'll see video of a duck crashing into a pond on one of the screens. It's from Mission to Mars, an homage the long-gone attraction at the Magic Kingdom.

If you take the "Undiscovered Future World" tour, you get to visit the inside of the control room (or at least our tour did). The monitors that face the line are false (yet very detailed - the manuals on the console aren't just blanks books with covers but fully detailed inside), but the CMs on the opposite side are actually monitoring the ride and the queue. One of the highlights of the tour.
