Okay, I've seen the WDW planning video about Mission Space and it says this ride is the most intense in the park. What is intense about it? Trying to figure out if it is too much for our 7 and 9 year olds.

Thanks!

I'm one who gets motion sick on spinning rides. I was fine w/ this ride until the very end when the planet "falls" out from under you. This was the only time I felt queasy. My son, 11 at the time, was fine. We kept our 8 yr old off of this ride, but he probably could have handled the "intensity." I think that age is right on the border.

After reading what I just wrote you--I don't think I helped one bit!! :flower:

I puked, totally getting the 3 teenage girls on the ride with me to feel sorry for me.

What is intense about it?

The gazillion G's. It'll push you back into your seat to the point that it's hard to breathe. I was as sick as I've ever been when I got off. And I handle roller coasters with no problem.

If you have a problem with motion sickness it may be a very "intense" ride for you. Personally I don't think it's that bad. ToT and RocknRollerCoaster are more intense in my opinion. It does push you back in your seat though, and the G's can make you feel funny. Even I won't ride it on a full stomach. If your kids can handle RocknRollerCoaster, they can probably handle Mission Space. Just don't eat right before riding it.

I agree with Disney Gator, I rode it three times in a row with no problem, but some people get sick afterwards. I think ToT is worse than Mission Space.

Hmmm..I LOVE roller coasters!! But I can no longer do spin rides. I went on before I realized that it actually does spin....that is how it generates the G force feeling....I found myself wanting to close my eyes in the beginning but then I remembered the admonition to keep them OPEN, and as long as I did...everything was fine.

I rode it several times last trip without any problem BUT....I did feel 'funny' for a few minutes right after the ride, but not at all dizzy....maybe just approaching queasy?

So...depending on your kids (do they like the tea cups?) and depending on if they can keep their eyes open despite a definite 'pull' to close them....I think they will do fine.

Good Luck!

The cast member at the boarding area must have seen the terror in my eyes. He asked me if I could ride the teacups, and said if you can ride the teacups, you can ride Mission Space. (He admitted he hated the teacups.) You do have to keep your eyes open and watch the screen, and I really concentrated on having fun. I kept talking and laughing anytime I felt like I might feel weird, and it seemed to take my mind off it, and when I got off I could easily have gotten right back on the ride. I'll go back again and again. I couldn't believe I'd almost passed it by due to all the hype about how sick it would make me.

I rode Misson Space for the first time last week. I was getting a little nervous going through the line, 'cause it seems like every few minutes there's a new sign warning about the spinning and the motion sickness. When I actually got on the ride, I LOVED it! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

My DS, 12 loved it! My DS, 9 was too scared to try it. My neice, 6, almost 7 went on it and did not like it at all. She was crying when we got off the ride. It is definitely an intense feeling. :earseek: This is the same girl, though, who was scared the first time riding Test Track and then loved it the second time.

I would say if your kids like the other fast rides, they'll probably love Mission Space!! :bounce: Have fun!

I just got back from our vacation and I already want to go back!

My DS (9) loves this ride! It is one of his very favorites. He was nervous about it the first time we were in line as we had heard all the stories about people getting ill. DH and I enjoy it as well. The "G" forces are very strong so if your family doesn't like to spin really fast, it might not be for you! It is a different type of intense than a rollercoaster ride.

Actually, eating before you go on a ride will LESSEN your motion sickness. I work in the morgue and when people come to view autopsies, we recommend they DO eat. No food in your tummy will intensify the feelings for motion sickness, queasiness, etc. Yes, you might throw up, but you won't feel as sick and it won't last as long. Just thought I would share :)

Though I'm able to do the ride itself without problems, another passenger tossing cookies might create a chain reaction of dismaying proportions.

jarestel- I agree! I cannot stand to see other people puke. It makes me dry heave at the least! :crazy2:

The "G" force didn't bother me but the "sling shot over the planet" visual got me. I was queasy for about 5-10 minutes.

I read a trip report recently where someone said the G forces on MS had been toned down because too many people were getting sick. I haven't seen that same info anywhere else so I can't verify its true.

I don't know about them dumbing down the G forces, but Mission:Space exceeded some ride at Universal for the most "dangerous" in Orlando. That basically means that Mission:Space now sends more people to the hospital than any other ride in the area, including all of the theme parks in Central Florida.

I get a little queasy on Soarin', and would never dare go on teacups, so I know I would puke my brains out on this one. I'm also claustrophobic, and a chicken, so I wouldn't even consider it. Just the thought of it makes me a little :crazy2:
No thanks!

They didn't install barf bags on this attraction for nothin'. DS wanted to keep a clean one as a souvenir! Hey, maybe we could put some Disney character stickers on them and give them to the family as gifts upon our return. :crazy2:

I enjoy MS, DH thinks it is just okay and doesn't mind skipping it. Neither of us get sick but my SIL was so sick after riding that she had to go back to the room the rest of the day. She said that she closed her eyes during it. My 5 yo niece rode it and loved it!

I have a thing though. I have to ride with family memebers. I don't want strangers to get sick on me!

I just got back and finally got the nerve to try this again - with my eyes open this time and kept my head straight - no moving back and forth to look at my family next to me or just turned sideways from fear.

The first time was before they officialy opened and right after the ride I felt awful. Head spinning, headache, felt like I was going to be sick and could not even walk. I also had to go back to our resort. I was too scared to try it in August (maybe it was the heat).

This time, much better. Still intense but did not feel anything like the first time.

I don't think it's for everyone.

I tried Tower of Terror and would not do this again. I don't like leaving my stomach up in the air.

This was also my third attempt at Rock'Roll Coaster and finally did it. I would do this again. Take off felt like Mission Space's take-off and the rest of the ride was like Space Mountain. I did keep my eyes open.

I do not like Tea cups - they make me sick- not afraid obviously but don't want to ruin the rest of my day.

Everyone is different - you know what your limits are but it's nice to try everything once.
