Mission Space: How do they do that?

This has probably been mentioned somewhere on the boards but the search feature works so slow for me:

How do they pull off the effects on Mission Space?

It was the weirdest feeling and I could not figure it out. Are you just spinning or are you moving as well? I looked at my kids screen next to me and boy was that a mistake. So much for listening to the directions at the start of the Mission. LOL.

Yes, you're spinning like test tubes in a great big centrifuge. And yes, I agree that I'll never look at the next screen instead of my own again.

You are actually spinning horizontally. If you've ever seen a "Round-Up", "Turkish Twist", or "Velocitron" at a carnival, it's the same idea . . . those rides that spin so fast you stick to the side of the wall. it doesn't feel like it because unlike those rides, you have no outside stationary scenary to give you a point of reference. as you ride it, you'll feel a slight tug to the side, but by watching the screen, you fool yourself into thinking it's a straight-forward acceleration. But you'll sure feel it if you look away from that screen!

It is like sitting on the rim of a large rotating wheel and facing the center. Except you cannot see the "entire wheel", you cannot see things in the background flying past, and you cannot see everybody seated all around, just the three others in your cabin.

I am not sure whether you tilt forward and back (relative to where you are facing) or whether the "entire wheel" rises and tilts, like the Round Up amusement ride if you have ever ridden one of those. To achieve the forward and backward tilt of your body let's refine the wheel model to have the wheel itself overhead and hung from the rim in various places are (to be exact, six) four person cabins that get flung out slightly as the wheel spins or can be pulled in as the mechanism calls for. You can also think of a merry go round where the horses face the center.

Out of curiousity, what happens when you tilt your head forward and look at another screen? I've never had the guts to do it? Do your eyes fall out? Or your head fall off? Cause that would suck if that happened.

I was Cold sweating for about 20 minutes after the ride in 85+ weather.
DON'T EVER LOOK AWAY FROM YOUR SCREEN.
This is from someone who has ridden rides that spin you (ie. Rotor) 7 times in a row.
I felt like an old man after Mission Space.

So all the capsules spin together at the same time.... that explains the layout of the ride somewhat.

Out of curiousity, what happens when you tilt your head forward and look at another screen? I've never had the guts to do it? Do your eyes fall out? Or your head fall off? Cause that would suck if that happened.

You will notice that you are spinning, and it will cause many people to quickly become disoriented and or sick.

I've looked away from the screen several times(at my boyfriend) and nothing has happened. Which is weird b/c i get bad motion sickness in the car.
