History - We last stayed at the POFQ December, 1991. At the time, they were working on completing the POR, which I had never seen. Based on trip reports posted here, I decided to try one of the newly refurbished rooms at the going discount of $89/night for a standard room (no garden or pool view). In the past, with my AP, I would have qualified for $74/night, but the $30 savings didnt warrant an investment in an AP this year.
Room Requests - My original plan had us in the check-in line around noon (to beat the airport rush crowd), but I spent longer getting the rental car (see Part #5), so we went to Plan B (which re-sequenced lunch ahead of checkin), which put us in line closer to 3:00 pm. Waited about 5-10 for a CM and check-in was very smooth (calm, courteous, low voice). My only room preference was non-smoking and the best room in its class that you have available, something you would give your mother and we were off to Room 1124. The view was of trees/grass better (prettier and quieter) than parking lot. If you went to the window and looked left, you could easily see the canal. Look right and you could see the far edge of the parking lot. Room assigner must like his/her mother

Room was lovely (same as pictures posted by other reporters), clean; no complaints. Pool was full but not crowded.
*** View of Room, same as all the others... ***
CanalWalk - One of my goals this trip-of-trying-new-things was to do a complete walk / circuit through POFQ and around POR. I was very impressed with the buildings, theming, landscaping, cleanliness, etc. It was very pretty and required several stop-n-shoot sessions for pictures and video. Got acquainted, and later returned to, the food court / gift shop complex to eat (vouchers different thread) and see what the Bob Jackson raves were about (justified he is very good entertainment and free enjoyed by adults and kids alike).
*** View along the canal ***
Boat Ride - We took a boat ride from POR to POFQ and the pilot was very informative. Dont remember all of his remarks, but the one I do remember was that Disney brought in 20-some artists from New Orleans to design the ironwork for the POFQ railings. Once again, that Disney attention to detail, quality, beauty ..
Boat Ride
Bottom Line: The ultimate test of consumer satisfaction is (a) whether you will repeat the business / experience and (b) whether you would recommend it to others. The answer to both of these is a resounding YES. Since 1991, we have stayed at the CSR when requiring a moderate resort for whatever reason and we like the Pepper Market and Mayan/Aztec pool. But I think we will gravitate (not exclusively) to POFQ/POR in the future, based on (a) quality of food court, (b) ability to take long walks in the shade, (c) access to boat ride (to DTD), (d) theming.
P.S. I like New Orleans, the uniqueness of the French Quarter architecture and lived in a brownstone in Hoboken for 3 years so I like the apartment look of the FQ. My son suggested that maybe next time we could try POR, since he likes the look of the mansions (they look more homey) and its something new.
P.P.S. We stayed at the CBR in 1989 and 1990, when it was the only moderate game in town, and liked it a lot. However, we are DVC members at OKW, which has a Caribbean flavor as well, so I have never felt the urge to book CBR in recent years. I wouldnt want those who are partial to it think that it isnt up there with CSR and POR.
