Mission Alpha Beta 2

Ok, a 2008 scrap fest I think I could swing.... okay, when things settle I read and reread this thread and get my dates...and my budget and DH on board with this...

I snore too!! And talk in my sleep. I don't mind bunking up either. I just looked at the calendar and our school start date for 2008 is Aug 27 so I could definitely swing that trip.

As for xmas vs halloween, DH is more keen on xmas. I'm flexible either way but xmas gives me more time to save some $$$. Doing WDW in March, Mini meet in July and maybe trying to squeeze in CKC Valley Forge in July makes money tight. I can skip CKC and just drive up to CKC Manchester instead.

Decisions Decisions.......

I think a DIS ladies scrap trip would be fantastic! I'd brave the August heat for that!

I'll bunk with a snorer - I can sleep through anything! My DH needs to sleep with an industrial strength fan and "white noise" on the CD player every night so that has trained me to be a very deep sleeper. I was on vacation once and the hotel had a fire alarm go off in the middle of the night - I didn't even budge. There was a massive explosion at a factory one town over from us right before Thanksgiving (luckily no one was hurt) - people could feel/hear it 30 miles away. DH woke up but again, I never even stirred.

You know, I was really thinking of skipping CKC Manchester this year because I'm strongly leaning toward doing CKU Orlando in the fall, but I just went online to look at the classes they're offering for the earlier CKC in Portland and they look so much better than last year! I was telling myself I wouldn't take a day off for it but now my decision just got a lot harder! My two measly personal days a year just don't stretch far enough!

Well $145 later....... I guess I need to start saving my pennies now!! There is some really cute stuff out there. Did you see that 9am - 5pm class?? I doubt I could sit there that long but it would be very cool.

:yay:

I'll take that 9-5 class, that looks cool!

Missing are Lisa Bearnson classes? Does she add her's last?

Is it worth staying in the Valley Forge Scanticon Hotel, anyone have a review? Or would it be better staying down the road at the Comfort Suites?

Lisa Bearnson doesn't go to every CKC. Last year at Manchester we didn't have any "celebrities" that I had ever heard of.

Last year my two favorite instructors (that I would take almost any class from again) were Tina Masterjohn from Little Black Dress Designs and Katherine Brooks from Deluxe Designs. Since taking her class I've seen Katherine Brooks' name as the author of a few books, so I guess she's sort of famous.

I heard the convention center hotel was pretty dumpy though. I stayed down the road at the Hilton it wasn't very nice either but it was free with DH's points. There are plenty of hotels to choose from too.

I guess it depends on how you define worth it. :) It isn't the best hotel I've ever stayed in but it isn't that bad either. My MIL and I found it great to stay on site (I actually live 15 min away) so that we could go to the evening crops and she could go to bed and I could stay longer. If we drove, that would be tougher. In the end, we were just in the room to sleep, so I didn't care so much about some of the extras.

We will probably go to CKC again and we will stay on site again. Hopefully, no power outages will occur and it will be like a vacation. :rolleyes1

You have to admit though that it made the day quite memorable. :rotfl2:

I was thinking all I really need is a bed anyway, so it would probably be easier to stay at the hotel. Also, it makes a place to crash for a break. It is cheaper than the other places not connected to the convention that I just got quotes for. Did you like the evening crops?

As for the power outage...crossing my fingers about that too...

We have gone for 2 years now and done all four Fri and Sat crops. The Fri one is much more crowded and rowdy. Contests, give aways, stuff like that. Sat is much calmer and quieter. I get stuff done at the crops, so we'll probably go again.

The group rate seems pretty cheap to me. $107 for the night. I split it with my MIL so it is really reasonable. I guess, if I drove home, that would be free, but that defeats the "Mommy is currently unavailable for refereeing any squabbles, arguments or discussions" concept I have that weekend! :teeth:

Yeah, I thought $107 was good, especially if I can get my friend to come with and split it. I'm still not sure about the crop, you really get stuff finished? I can just see me being a social butterfly and not getting a thing done...but that might be worth it too...hmmmmm :hyper2: I guess alot of people leave after the last class on Sat, That's what I was planning on doing, and saving the room fee... have to see what the funds are...
