As my husband says, "education is highly overrated." DD is in 6th grade and will miss 4 days and some teachers were less than nice but I say in 20 years I won't remember their names and I will remember having fun with my kids. DS's teacher (he's 7) could care less. I wish I could AFFORD to be gone for two weeks but plan on missing lots more school this year. I tell them "you better NOT get sick"
When I was in middle school and high school my parents took me out of school for about 1 wk most years for a trip to WDW. My teachers always gave me the work to do while we were gone, and I have memories of working on homework on the beach at the CBR. I had no problem missing the days, and a wonderful time at WDW. I will not hesitate to take my kids out as long as they are excellent students (when I have kids ) By the way, just to toot my own horn a little bit (someone has to!!!), I was salutatorian of my class and went on to 11 more years of college and graduate school, so I don't think I did too bad. My brother is now in the middle of the same track!)
