Missing School?

I pulled my daughter out when she was in kindergarten too. She is one of the youngest in her grade, and turned 5 on Sept. 18th of that year, and we spent her birthday at WDW. This was 8 years ago.

She's now in 8th grade, still one of the youngest in her grade, is in all advanced/honor classes and brings home grades of 87% or higher.

On that same trip, we took our older 2 daughters, one was a senior in high school and the other was a sophomore. Both lost a week of school in September. Both ended up going to and graduating from college.

It worked great for us.

Our family went to Disney for the 1st time ever this past February. None of us had ever been & I figured it's so expensive we may never have a chance to go again.

So, I made the decision to take the kids out of school for 5 days. I wanted us to really enjoy the lighter crowds for what may be a once in a lifetime trip.

I have a kindergartener, 4th grader, and a 10th grader. My 1oth grader is the only one whose teachers gave her grief. I felt terribly guilty about it, but I am still glad we did it. All 3 had perfect attendance to date & no one had fallen behind.

Good Luck-it is a hard decision.:upsidedow

Ours was a similiar situation. I figured it was a once in a lifetime trip so I took them out last May for a week. I had a kindergartener and a 3rd grader. Both teachers were really nice about it. I don't even think the 3rd grade teacher even made him make up any lost work. It was awesome (because he does struggle in school some) I think she is a lover of disney also so she didn't want him worrying about school work while we were gone on vacation. It was so worth it!!

We took our twins out of Kindergarten for a week last year, and will be doing it again in 1st grade this dec. First of all, in kindergarten they just missed some new "sight words",some art work and nothing that they couldn't catch up with when they got back. the trip was worth it.
I know children that have been out a week from school this year with the flu! Disney is a much better time;)
