I leave for WDW on November 14th. Like so many of you here, you can only imagine the excitement I am experiencing. I am counting down so hardcore.

We are always a family of paper chains and chalkboard countdowns. Also calendar countdowns.

Here's the problem, the kids don't know we're going. We love to do the surprise thing but this time it's tough.

We have always been a family where any of the six of us will say randomly, "Well let's just get in the car and go to WDW" or we always reference a ride or a meal. This is why we want to do the surprise thing but this lack of a countdown is really killing me :(

I know exactly what you mean! This year is a surprise trip for my daughter, so no count downs either... But anticipating and planning her surprise is a good trade off :) What I have done is use two tickers as my signature. I like the one that counts the number of days, so everyday I log into The DIS and give myself a little happy dance when the number goes down :)

Maybe make a fake countdown? Like the day grandma visits? Or day we go to the aquarium?

Which reminds me, we're almost at 100 days! :cool1:

We are going the same day! Where are you staying?

Make a countdown on your phone you can perk at secretly. :)

We leave from PA on November 14th and plan to drive straight through (probably 18 hours). We plan to arrive Saturday at some point if all goes well ;)

We are staying at ASMusic!

YAYAAYAYAY :)

I can totally relate. We are going in October and it is a surprise. We booked in January so I'm dying to tell the girls about it. They also have friends that are going the same time, so my girls are always talking about how much their friends are going to have. Every time they bring it up, I want to tell them. Fortunately, I don't have that much longer to wait. My girls need a little digestion time, so we are going to tell them a month out with a surprise scavenger hunt and countdown calendar. I can't wait to go and I can't wait to surprise them.

I like the idea of the countdown for a "trip" idea

another suggestion is to make your countdown and put it in your closet liek inside the door so that you can see it in the morning/evening and close the door!

Or, if you work, can you have a countdown chain there? But yes, the closet or someplace the kids don't look would be a good one.

That might be a fun way of surprising the kids. A week or so before you go, you could just hang it up some place. See how many days it takes them to ask or figure it out.

I really love that idea :)
