I waitlisted the grand californian for Oct 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th
It came through for the 3rd and 5th ... if I don't get the 4th by Sept 1st .. I'll have to decide if I want to have 3 diff rooms ( get a hotel in between)

Has anyone ever done this?

With so many other hotels in close proximity it probably isn’t that big of a deal to get a room for the 4th. I’d do it.

If you wait until Sept. 1 to decide, keep in mind that canceling 9/3 and 9/5 will result in the points which were used on those reservation going into holding. You would actually need to cancel those reservations 31 days in advance to avoid holding. So you pretty much need to either fill that inside soon or gamble further that it will come through for you.

Is staying at VGC worth it to you if you need to change rooms every day?

I think you misread- they’re possibly cancelling Oct ressies by 9/1. No worries about holding 😉

I’ve had a missing night, but I ended up switching my stay to a different resort since my waitlist (& stalking) wasn’t coming through (obvs this was at WDW, not DL). I personally wouldn’t mess around with checking out every single morning on my vacation- that would get to be a real pain. Fast! But if you want to give it a whirl- go for it!! 😆🤪

To me it would depend on size of party. Traveling light with one or two like minded individuals, no prob. Dragging along kids and sleepy adults, no way.

I did an epic 2 week last minute solo trip a few years before covid where I changed hotels maybe 4 or 5 times as I would get 2 nights, 1 night, 1 night, etc when I booked. Since I was alone and had a car, I just kept everything in my car and brought in what I needed, and could go back to the car if I forgot something. I would never do that on a trip with even 2 people.

In my opinion, due to cancelations, after 30 days the nights come easier at WDW. Can't speak for Grand Cal.
