While I was in Florida ther was a story of little boy that was missing. Trenton (SP?) was his name I think. His mother had committed suicide and his father was hoping they would find him, has ther been any news about the boy since monday (thats when I flew home)

 No, no news yet. They are still searching for him. It's such a sad story :guilty:

Today there was a big flurry of hope for a possible sighting for a little while, but it didn't turn out to be him:

Sighting Of Missing Leesburg Toddler Is Mistaken Identity

POSTED: 5:59 pm EDT October 5, 2006
UPDATED: 6:15 pm EDT October 5, 2006

TITUSVILLE, Fla. -- What was thought to be a sighting of Trenton Duckett in Brevard County on Thursday turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

Several workers at a Bank of America in Titusville saw a little boy with his great grandmother and called police. They were positive he was the missing 2-year-old boy from Leesburg, especially after hearing the woman call his name.

"The policeman stopped me and wanted to know what his name is and his name is Trenton. So I told him his name is Trenton," explained Cheryl Compton, Trenton Marshall's great grandmother. "That set off a bunch of bells for everybody. So they brought a bunch of police down here. I guess they thought I stole him, but I didn’t. He’s really our Trenton."

Even though they look alike, Trenton Marshall is a year older. Trenton Duckett has been missing since late August.

Here's a link to some more info - the audio of the 911 call from the grandfather when the mother killed herself is strange to me, he sounds so calm about it....

I hope that they are able to solve this mystery - he is such a cute little fellow in his pictures...

We were at Disney and this was all over the news! I feel so horrible for that family. DH said maybe the mother sold him to people who wanted children really badly and they aren't willing to give him up. As sad as that sounds at least it would mean he's still alive.

What do the locals think?

Unfortunately, this local thinks Melinda (the mom) did something to him :guilty:

Especially after they found his toys and sonograms in the dumpster right after he was reported missing. I've never heard of a mom throwing away sonograms when her child is missing! I also hated to hear that she planned to go to the lake with her new 20 gauge shotgun - and Trenton - to practice target shooting the morning that he went missing too...

The DCF files that have been released show lots of scary info that make me think a bad ending is possible. But I pray she did nothing to harm him!

I've never heard of a mom throwing away sonograms even when their children are not missing.

I think the mother had something to do with it and I fear that he is never coming home. Very sad.

The case has been covered non-stop on local news. IMHO, he is most likely dead. His mother was very unbalanced. Children and Family Services had been called prior, but took no action. It's a shame. I really believe the mother was afraid her ex would get Trenton, so she killed him. When the police started asking the difficult questions, she killed herself. Very sad case.

The mother was originally from our area & her parents still live here. I just read an article in last week's newspaper.

The whole thing is a little fishy. My thoughts are that the mom had something to do with it.

As hard as I wanted not to from the very beginning of the story, I suspected Melinda. Much like the Susan Smith case, there was just something in her eyes even through the camera and TV that just did not look like a mom who was really afraid for her missing child. She failed a voice stress test, refused a polygraph, walked out of the interrogation when the police started asking her the hard questions as Peggy mentioned. In previous weeks she tried to set the father up by getting into his email and sending a threatening email, and in the 911 call said "I know he "friggin" did it" - he was cleared almost immediately through alibeits, polygraphs, etc and has been a very visible part of the search, even holding car washes, etc to raise reward money. He had the help of Mark Lunsford whose DD was kidnapped from her bed and murdered by a man who lived close by, as well as appearing on the Nancy Grace show (like her or not - she took a strong interest in the case.)

I fear as many others that little Trenton has been killed, and I only hope for the family that at sometime there is closure to the case.

Is the father a bad guy? Why would mother not want him to have son?

They are just very very young - just 21 years old, and they had a tumultuous relationship. The mother appears to have had mental issues from reports that have been released. she was a cutter, and diagnosed with OCD. So most likely she was not thinking clearly. It's one of those situations where is she could not have him she did not want him to have him either. Trenton had been removed from her care on more than one occasion, and DCF had given the father custody. Trenton was also in foster care for a short time.

Here is a link the the local news stations files on the case including her suicide notes. http://www.wesh.com/iteam/10015613/detail.html and the DCF information.

I think the fact that she killed herself almost proves that she did something to the child. I mean, if you do not want your ex to get the child, killing yourself will only ensure he goes to the ex. If you know the child is gone, then it really wouldn't matter.

That's exactly what I think too :guilty:

I think she had something to do with it....there was just so much suspicion around her.

Such a shame for that innocent little boy.

Just today I read that she had prepared a will on June 6 - could be a coincidence, but I think most 21 year olds don't usually think about wills....

And fresh paint on some of the apartment walls? Can't the police still use that chemical (luminol? sp) to indicate if blood was on the walls, or does the new paint cancel that from being used? (I watch too much CSI!)

I keep hoping that there will be good news about this case a la Elizabeth Smart. I can't help but agree that the mother probably did something terrible to that boy, either killing him or abandoning him somewhere. The facts released so far just point in that direction IMO. So, so very sad.

I still have the sonograms of the 4 babies I lost, that is just nuts!
