We're planning on giving each of our kids -- DD8 and DS5 -- Disney dollars to spend during our five day trip. I'm not sure how this will work, but I have some concerns. They might want to buy the first thing they see, and then be shut out the rest of the trip, or they might decide to wait and see everything and then not be able to find again the first thing that they wanted.

QUESTION: If you see something you like at a store in the park and think Maybe, what are the chances you will see it again outside that park? I'm thinking especially of Animal Kingdom and Epcot as we are doing just one day each at those.

We weren't planning on any Downtown Disney -- but does the big Disney Store there have a lot of the stuff form the parks? or is it all the generic stuff we have at our own mall?

Park specific souvenirs are usually just that. Rarely do you find a specialty park piece outside of it's respective park. As for the World of Disney, it is pretty much like a Disney Store. There are logo merchandise pieces, and collectors areas of the store, but much of what is found in the park will not be found here.

if you see it and you like it buy it...
they told us that on the cruise during the shopping lecture...if you are only going to be there one day...Like you are in Naussa for a cruise...then dont hesitate...you might not be able to find it otherwise.

Usually, if something is not 'attraction based' like something from the Test Track attraction shop, you should be able to find it in any of the big stores. Epcot has MousePort, MK has the Emporium..that kind of thing. The store in DTD has everything that other big stores have.
When my dd was younger, starting at age 5-6, she was given a daily allotment. I think it was about $5 back then. When she spent it, it was gone. She religiously waited until she got back to the resort every night and would buy something there!! It was really pretty cut. As she got older the amount got higher. I would tell her that I would get her one big thing, but anything else she wanted she was responsible for paying for. Family always gave her spending money so she had a bit more than what I gave her.

If it is in a park buy it. You can alway return it at the resort gift shop if you find something else you would like.

Yes there are a couple things I did not pick up -- I'll get it later  -- now I could just kick myself. There are unique items you might not see again and also some items that SELL OUT!!! I say SEE IT AND GET IT THEN! That's my advice! :sunny:
