We booked our flights a few weeks ago for November 29th to Dec 10th 2016 and looks like we missed free dining by 1 day . It's blacked out exactly on our booked days, the 28th is the last day for November and the 10th of December is the first day it's available again. Bad luck for us we were really hopping to get free dining again this year. Too bad I couldn't pay for the 28th and show up on the 29th. Oh well not much we can do.

Aww, sorry to hear. Wonder what is going on. Usually the Thanksgiving crowds are gone.

I thought it would be a slow time to go, after the Thanksgiving holiday in the USA, but before the Christmas crowds start. I hope there isn't something going on that week I did hear about that will make for huge crowds.

It's been awhile since we've done FD (2009) but we're thinking about going in November. The old rule used to be if you checked in on a date where FD was offered you got it for the length of your stay, even if some of the days are blacked out. Is that still the case, or does every day of your stay have to be covered by the offer?

For example, let's say we checked in on 11/21 and checked out on 11/25. Would we get it for our entire stay, or just 1 day (the 21st)?

Yes, that's still the case. The fine print on Disney's website reads:
Offer valid at select Disney Resort hotels for arrivals most nights:
  • August 23 through October 1, 2016
  • November 15 through November 21, 2016
  • November 26 through November 28, 2016
  • December 10 through December 21, 2016

Very thankful.

Yay!

I don't think free dining has ever been offered during Pop Warner week which is the cheer and dance superbowl for Pop Warner teams. December 3, 2016 - December 10, 2016

We "missed" free dining by 1 day a few years ago. Instead of departing at 5:00 PM and staying overnight part way, we moved our departure up to 2:00 PM and pushed straight through. Our arrival was at 4:00 AM(technically 4 hours after free dining ended), but the computers do not flip to the next day until around 5:00 AM. We had 8 days of free dining as a result. I would seriously look at a slightly earlier departure of sending someone down early to secure the room, it saved us over $1,000.

For 10 days of free dining it might be worth looking into re-booking one person's flight in your party to fly down the day early. ("Worth it" would depend on what kind of free dining you are talking about and how many people in your room.)

We also missed the free dining by 1 day, we are flying down October 2 and free dining ends October 1. It is my sister and I and my 2 children travelling together and sharing a room. If we changed our reservation to October 1 and my sister changed her flight and flew down on October 1 and checked into the room that day would we all still get the free dining offer even though myself and my children won't be arriving until the following day?

Yes. They don't know that everybody hasn't arrived. She'll check-in and pick up the MBs if you don't already have them, and you can start using the tickets and food credits once you arrive. Just make sure you have a plan for using the extra credits. Good luck!

Check if Free Dine is available before she changes her flight. Some dates/resorts are sold out for FD.

Ok reading about the Pop Warner week stuff has me on edge...I take it it's around the same time every year and also is there any way to find out what their schedule would be for 2017 like can I google them?

I was there back around 2005 with cheer groups at all stars and it was miserable rude little brats I was around so with DD 1st trip I don't want to be around those types of people if possible. mind you not all of them were bad but the handful that were made me want to avoid them at all costs.

we are wanting to go the week after thanksgiving next year which would be the last week of November? Any thoughts?

I find it odd that you technically be at WDW for free dining during Thanksgiving and Christmas, but not one day, other than October 1 is offered.

Don't they ask to see everybody when checking in?

Not that I've ever heard, though I haven't stayed on Disney property for years. But why would they? They specifically create areas for the kids to hang out while parents are checking in, so I can't imagine them having that requirement. And I've read plenty of posts here on the Dis about moms taking the kids straight to the parks while dad checks in, or parties arriving on separate flights, and other similar situations.

Anybody with firsthand knowledge able to chime in?
