Well, maybe not so much a miracle, but it worked!! I went to my doctor on Friday for a checkup and mentioned that I could use a prescription for an anti-motion-sickness drug of some kind for my upcoming trip to Disney. Something non-drowsy and that actually works.

He prescribed a drug called Scopamine (sounds like scope-uh-meen), and it comes in a patch (Transdermal Scop). The patch goes behind your ear and lasts 3 days.

He told me it may cause dry mouth and to absolutely NOT touch my eyes after hadnling the patch (can cause blurred vision). Wash hands thoroughly after handling.

Today DH and I went to an amusement park (Carowinds) and I rode EVERYTHING!! It was the first time in years I could ride a roller coaster or whirly type ride without feeling lightheaded, nauseous and require an hour break bewteen rides!

It was magnificent. I'm going to send my doctor a thank you card. He prescribed me enough patches for the honeymoon and I am so happy I can ride Space Mountain, Mission, Space adn all the others without worry.

PS...no dry mouth, and I have been careful about my eyes too!

It doesn't work for me on rides. It helps with motion sickness on board a ship ala the DCL.

MMmmm...Naturally, not every drug works for every person. Dramamine knocks me out like a light...others swear by it. Hopefully those who are still searching for relief and haven't tried the Scopamine patch may be able to find relief like I did.

I am also VERY susceptible to side effects from medication and this stuff didn't faze me at all.

I have a constant inner ear infection. Would this help me? I get sick on the Merry go round, dumbo, even if I sit in the back seat of a car I have to look out the window. :confused3 I will ask my Dr for this to help me.

thank you so much. I tried Dramamine and It put me to sleep. Thank goodness my DH was with me to watch my DS6 LOL Best most expensive sleep I ever had.

My husband proposed to me at Carowinds in 1989. Sigh...your post made me remember. :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc

Just as a note of caution...

A few years ago DH and I went on a 14 day cruise. I got the patch because I didn't want to be seasick. Worked great, except for when I got home. It appears if you use the patch for longer than 7 days you can have some rough withdrawl side effects. Basically I got sea sick when I got home. Room spinning, nausea... luckily it only lasted for about 24 hours.

As with all medicine, read and follow the directions.

It is so weird that diffrent people have diffrent side effects on Medicine. Dramimine does nothing for me - I can't even tell I took it :confused3 I have heard good things about the patch before

I too suffer from motion sickness and nausea and have tried everything out there, prescription and over the counter. I've discovered Bonine, an over the counter drug works great..no drowsiness and chewable so I can take it anywhere/anytime. When in WDW I always start the day with one just to be on the safe side. I also keep a supply of ginger pills with me at all times.

The Scopalamine patch (transderm scop) has been around for more than 20 years. I used to use it going offshore fishing with my Dad. It was pulled from the market around 10 years ago for "reformulation". I think there had been some major side effect problems. I have not used it since reformulation but do remember the side efects from the old one: Really weird, intense dreams, talking in my sleep, sleep walking, and the biggest: constantly dilated pupils. Not fun at all, I had to constantly wear sunglasses or felt like crying. That was bad but if you didn't wash you hands for like five minutes you could also get another side effect, Super sensitive eyes if you put the patch on then put your contact lenses in. This was miserable. As good as the drug worked for me, I'd have to think long and hard before I'd use it again.

Your Dr wasnt kidding about the blurred vision. I went on a cruise with my BF last year and I must have touched the patch after I put it on because I washed my hands after applying it and then touched my contacts. It totally dialates your eyes and she had to read the menus for me for 1 day and 1/2. I had brough x-stitching to do in my down time and i couldnt see to do that either. Just be careful about touching without thinking. Have fun. :wizard:

Yes. According to the pharmacist who filled the script, you can end up with withdrawl if you take it for too long. He wore it on a cruise and was fine until he removed it.

It does dilate your pupils so do be careful when putting in your contacts or touching your eyes.

I am so thrilled it worked.

Another idea to try: Ginger Altoids. When I first heard this suggested... I said there was NO way it would work. On our Disney cruise a few years back I tried Non Drowsy Dramamine... it knocked me out for 12 hours. As a single parent, that just isn't an option. So I gave the Altoids a try. They worked for me! I also use them anytime my stomach is upset.

There isn't a non-drowsy version of dramamine. Look closely at the package..it says "LESS drowsy" (a bit of a scam IMO heheheh). I told this to my doctor because he told me to have dramamine on hand in case the patch wasn't enough. Apparently the ONLY difference between regular dramamine and the less drowsy version is that the less drowsy version is half the dosage of the regular! So you could buy regular dramamine and take half a pill (plus you'll have twice as many for the same price).

Cool! I may try some of those for Mission Space this time. It doesn't give me "motion sickness" per se. but really gives me a migraine afterwards. I'll try anything once!

We use Bonine, and it works great. No side effects we've noticed. I went on Tea Cups last year and spun and hard as I could and didn't feel a thing. I rode Mission Space twice in a row and barely felt a thing (the end of the second ride I felt a little queasy). Without it, I can get queasy on a swingset, so we are sold on it.

Bonine has worked for me too. No drowsiness at all. I have also tried the wrist bands. I use them on the airplane and sometimes slip them on when I know I will be riding something that makes me a little sick--Space Mountain, etc.

Has anyone had their child under 12 use this product? My son tends to get motion sickness. I have used the chewable Dramamine in long car trips but it makes him very tired. I would rather not give him Dramamine when we go to the parks. Bonine doesn't have a dosage for children under 12.

vatmark.....My doctor told me that I could give DDs 1/2 or 1/4 depending on their weight. Just phone your doctor and ask for dosage. This stuff does work without some of the side effects of dramamine. Be aware, it tastes AWFUL!!!!!!

My DD3 can't ride across town without getting car sick, so I would love any ideas that could help us with this. I don't think a 3 year old could wear that patch. Surely it would be too powerful and she would be constantly touching it.

Thanks. I figured that I could give him 1/2 a pill. My DS is 7 years old. I'll give him the chewable Dramamine on the 8 hour car ride(sleep and silence will be good) and save the Bonine for the parks.

First I have to find the chewable Bonine. I saw the swallow w/ water kind but my son has been having this thing with swallowing pills lately. He had been fine for a while swallowing his thyroid med. and then he wouldn't do it anymore so he would just chew it and take sips of soda to wash it down. I may have to roder it online because I have checked Target and Walmart and they did not have it.

Bonine is my friend.... :lovestruc

I really get seasick. A couple of years ago, I took a boat across the English Channel during a mild storm. OMG...

But I took some Bonine and laid down, and was fine the whole trip. Everyone around me was getting sick, but not me!! :hyper:
