Minor league soccer in Pawtucket, Rhode Island? Will it succeed?

I went to several Revolution games at Gillette Stadium. (A friend used to get free tickets so we took the kids.) Never very crowded. But not a big soccer fan so not really sure. Is this meant to replace the PawSox leaving town?

I don’t see it being a huge draw for crowds. I think they must be trying to replace the PawSox, but not sure soccer will be that successful there.

I think it could do OK. We've been to a ton of Revs games at Gillette, and the energy is so poor in that building, because even with 20K people, the stadium is still empty. Put that against some international games we've been to there, and the energy was incredible.

For a soccer specific stadium, the size of the new building in Pawtucket sounds about right. My son played in college, and played all through high school, and there are kids he played with and against who are playing on USL teams (or will be when they start up), and we're not far from Pawtucket, so I know he'll make the trip down a few times a season.

Could, with some colleges near by and Providence - you might see a consistent attendance. It really also depends on the vision USL has going forward. Are they going to try a PRO - REL between their levels? That could draw people a bit more.

The Revs need to get to Boston - That saga seems to have been going on for decades

There once was a man from Pawtucket……

I’m not familiar with the area. Wouldn’t Providence be a better choice?

:rolleyes1Anybody with that avatar shouldn't be questioning other people's choices. Just sayin... At least (s)he/it sort of has red hair, but I'm still not loving it. ;)

Sorry to go OT Buzz - resume the soccer talk. :flower3:

I’m glad you noticed. The avatar is only temporary, inspired by Onion Boy @Cannot_Wait_4Disney.

How about me bringing back this one?

Speaking of soccer... we have a USL 2 team coming to Lexington, KY. I do think they'll be successful, BUT, they have gobbled up MANY of the youth soccer programs in the area. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

It’s a good thing. It helps organize local leagues and talent. This will help players become better and for more opportunities to open up for kids to get noticed in a professional setting.

That sounds like spin. Two years ago we had six clubs within about 45 minutes of each other. Next year we're down to three. Now, I'm assuming the USL team will have 2, 3, or maybe even 4 teams in each age group. So tell me how that helps kids on the B/C/D teams "get noticed"? Personally, I don't think you'd want a reduction in clubs. I'd rather see more clubs with the talent spread out instead of one club taking ALL of the talent.
