Minnie Marathon 2007 -- WISH Roster (see post 1 for WISH Meets Info!)

Thanks me too, I am very prone to blisters and I thought that might be the thing that holds me back, never thought the shins would be a issue. I bought a great pair of socks and no more blisters.....touch wood.......

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I have to share for anyone out there who needs new shoes (or might soon): on sportsauthority.com under the "outlet" section, they are selling off the last of the Asics GT 2110 (now that they have the 2120, I think?), or at least some of the colors, for $60. And, they are doing a buy one get one half off deal on some of the models, so my husband and I both got our desperately needed new runners for less than $100. And they're usually upwards of $100 per pair!

Anyhow, if anyone needs them now is the time. I wore mine to work today to get used to them, and they are like heaven compared to my 2-year old Nikes. Off to test them out on the road.

Sorry i have been MIA - I am in Virginia getting ready to start two 16 hour days working on the deck of an air craft carrier!!:thumbsup2

No training for me at all this week, but I think all the work I am going to do will count as XT anyway:

Becky - We are doing RFTT with another couple who is just starting running!!

Jen - I'm glad that I convinced you, maybe it will help them understand. I am very lucky because DH and I run together, in fact he is the one that convinced me to run our first race.

Stephanie - I have nooooooooo idea what pace I am going to run. I have to see how much training I get in, in the last 5 weeks, trying to finish up school. When it gets closer I will let you know!!

So I will be jumping back into training on Sunday when I got back home to sunny FL - it's cold here in VA.

Happy Training!!

Two things:

1) my new shoes are great, and my shins thank me for purchasing them.

2) there are no headphones allowed in the race? I thought for sure I saw pics of people with iPods from the January marathon.....is this new, or just for the Minnie? Or do they mean BIG headphones and not earbuds.....I don't know if I can run without music!

Yeah don't pay attention to the no headphones thing, and I feel bad saying that, but I saw the same thing when we did RFTT and did not bring mine and I DON'T RUN WITHOUT MY MUSIC.!!

Well A LOT of people had their music and at the marathon they just "recommend" not having them. The bottom line:

as long as you can run with your music and still be curteous of everyone around you, you will be fine. no one is going to take them from you.:)

and I am happy to hear your new shoes are working for you

Thanks Angie, I am breathing a huge sigh of relief!

Erica, that is too funny that you mention sports authority and asics on here today. I just got back from there and that is what we bought. Actually I got a more expensive pair, they did not have the 2100 in my size. But that is what we got my DH and it only cost $20 for his. They felt really great trying them on, so we will see on friday when I go out with them.

Kim, sorry about your shin splints. I hope they feel better soon. I told my mom today about running the minnie and she told me I should because I gave her shin splints on our last trip to disney together. (I guess I was going too fast for her) But I think it cleared up soon after we got home.

My training is going well. I did 4 miles today.

Good morning everyone!!!!

Guess where I will be this time in 5 weeks.....actually somewhere between home and MCO.....but on my way to disney.....yipppeeeee

Why is it taking so long.

Thanks for all the good wishes for my shins, I have decided to rest them until my run on Sunday, then hopefully get back into training, even if it is back on the TM.

I am fighting a cold today as well, it was nice of DD to bring it home last week.....lol Oh well not too bad.

Hope you all have a great day

I was thinking the same thing, 5 weeks from today!

I did 8.4 miles today! I really enjoy the long ones, much better than the shorter ones!

My DW & I will be doing the same thing:banana: We arrivive at 6:58 pm.

Out to do a LSD(probably 7 miles). See all of you soon:)

Good training and stay healthy.

Hey Robert how was your LR????

Westcliffemom.....wtg on the 8.4.....WOW

I am in a self imposed rest until my 10K race on Sunday, with my shin splints and now I have a cold....can't win:confused3 . This race on Sunday has no time limit it is a walk/run so I am not worried about time so I am going to take it easy till Sunday.

What do you all eat the night before a race and then the morning of the race???? Since this is my first one I have no ideas???

Thanks

Kim

Kim--my advice would be to eat whatever you have been eating for prep of your LRs. I can tell you that I like to eat a pasta of some sort the night before a race and then my obligatory PB&J, coffee and water the morning of. However, now might not be the best time to try something new--You'd hate your stomach to start screaming around mile 5 b/c of what you ate. I do have to say that beer and pizza is not a good night before meal:rolleyes1

Training is going well. Got pushed to the max at our running clinic yesterday. 5K in 25:28. Got an 8 miler tomorrow--so we'll see how that goes--it's supposed to be stormy; I hope I can beat them b/c I don't want to get on the TM. TGIF all!!

Happy training!!!

Uh oh-- I have a 5k tomorrow, and I ate enchiladas tonight. It's all DH's fault for insisting on Mexican food. ;)

On the bright side, I've never run a 5k, so just finishing will be a personal best for me. Then, if the Mexican food comes back to haunt me, it will mean that I can totally top my time the next race!!

Hockeychic- I am SO not an expert having run only one 10k, but I found half a peanut butter sandwich, part of a banana, and a Diet Dr. Pepper worked fine. My biggest problem was that the water at the stops was NASTY and I was too vain to bring my water belt contraption. There was a lot of time between stops too (how on earth did the people without water survive the marathon?!) I got a little queasy from either too little water or too nasty water! I think I am going to try to strap my water on tomorrow and just try to look totally confident. We'll see if I have the nerve.

Jen in GA (who can't always remember to add the "in GA"- sorry!)

Jen in GA (who can't always remember to add the "in GA"- sorry!)

Just add it to your siggie then it will always be there....lol

Hey everyone I am so glad to see everyone training so good. I on the other hand am doing AWEFUL!!!! I just can't seem to get out, with my back it stinks!!!! Anyway, I did go out for two walks this week, and I wanted to die when I got home...I go to see the ortho on Tuesday, so we will see what he says. I hope something happens soon even if they can just give me a cortizone shot or something, that might be helpful to get me through the minnie. The thought of not doing it makes me sick to my stomach!!! I guess I will have to wait and see. THanks to everyone for the prayers and pixie...god knows I need it:rotfl: I plan on going out this weekend for a little walk, but I haven't done anything over 2 miles yet...UGH...I guess something is better than nothing though.

Can't wait to see you all in less than 5 weeks!!!!!:woohoo:

Jen, good luck on your first 5K! I've only done a 5K twice, and both times it was a walking race. I wanted to run the second one, but my friend who did it with me was dying just keeping up with my walking pace :rotfl: so I thought I'd better not leave her in the dust. Plus....it was an informal little thing.

Michelle, I'm so sorry about your back! Hang in there and take it a little bit easy. We still have 5 weeks so I'm sure you'll be fine.

This morning I had to postpone my long run, because yesterday I got all caught up in trying to run faster and apparently used pretty rotten body mechanics because this morning my right shin and my left ankle are both very sore. :headache:
After agonizing in bed this morning over the consequences of moving my LR I decided the world would NOT end if I did it on Sunday instead. In fact, I'm fairly confident that the world will not end even if I skip it this weekend and rest until Monday. I'll see how it feels tomorrow.

At this stage in my training, my LR is only 4 miles anyhow, so......:rotfl:

Happy Saturday!

Hello fellow Minnies! Add me to the list of those getting incredibly excited  :yay: :dance3: I have made my final pmt to Anthony Travel, confirmed ME & ready to go. Now I need to start on that packing list.

Michelle-:wizard: for your back. I know back pain is the worst.

Jen in Ga-good luck on your 5k:thumbsup2

Kim-I also vote for practicing what you eat before a race. I have an iron stomach so usually no probs for me & eat whatever the night before. The morning of I usually have PB& J , banana & diet coke. The breakfast of champions!:wizard: for your shins & cold. Hope you get better soon!

Hey Everyone! I hope everyone's training is going well. I dragged my Dh out with me today for my LR. I did 4 miles (he only did 3) in 49 min - a little over a 12 min mile. I know alot of you are much faster than that, but I just started training this past week, so I am very happy.

Enjoy your saturday! :)

Becky

Hey, Becky -- I just added you to the roster. When you get a chance, let us know what event(s) you are doing and where you are staying.

Jen in GA -- I just added you, as well, but don't have any of the other information.

Michelle -- Thinking positive thoughts for you, sweetie, :goodvibes: and sending pixiedust: I hope the ortho appointment goes well. I also hope you don't push yourself too much this weekend.

Hey Cam

I know I hadn't given my details yet. I was wallowing in self-pity because I hadn't been training much. However, I'm back on track (so to speak) and excited, so here's my relevant info:

Coming for Minnie Friday, leaving Sunday. Wish I was staying longer! I hope I can check my daughter out of school and hit the road in time to be able to go to the expo on Friday. I'm only doing the 15k so everyone gets to play all day Saturday at the parks.

Staying at POR with DH, DD(7) and DS(1 in 4 days!)

Haven't figured out if I am driving to race or not since ideally I'd like the family to pop over to the finish with a couple of signs. Thinking about taking a cab to Epcot, then the bus, etc. If I do decide to drive, I have a big SUV and would be happy to take some runners with me (or cab over together).

Is it realistic to think I can be finished with the race/pictures/meeting WISHers, etc early enough to take one last shower at POR before having to check out? Usually our last day at Disney is a delicate balancing act between me dragging out the Downtown Disney experience and my husband wanting to get on the road (what's the rush-- only laundry is waiting at home!)

Thanks for noticing I hadn't posted my info. Hope I didn't forget anything. I'm so impressed with your 70 pound loss! I'm down maybe 10 on a good day, but want to lose more.

I think I am going to live on the edge and post my 5k race report next!!

Jennifer

Jen -- you may want to ask for late check-out at POR. You should be done the race & pix, etc. by 9:30, I'd think, but I don't know what the traffic will be like for you getting back to your resort and that may be cutting it too close. The Disney resorts seem to be pretty good about that stuff if you ask ahead of time.
As for how you are getting to the start -- be sure to check out the roster and PM anyone else who is at your resort so you guys can coordinate. It is always so much fun to share the pre-race excitement (and nerves) with other WISHers!
Congrats on your 10 pound loss! You look great and obviously have so little to lose that every pound is just going to hang on for dear life! :lmao:
Can't wait to read your 5k report.
