Are there any fellow Minnesotan's out there?

If so, what is your favorite resort and why?

You can see where we've stayed and its mostly due to our budget. However, I would love to stay at the Poly or Contemporary someday! WL is just too much like home to feel like we're really getting away.

I frequently see many DIS posts from the east coast, but would love to hear from the heartland!

:wave2:

*LOL*

Well, I'm an "Eastener" now, but I grew up in MN. (S of Mankato).

My fav resorts are WL and CR. We like being close to MK since our dd is young & we spend most of our time at MK.

A true Minnesotan here who only survives the winters by dreaming of Disney!

We finally had the stay of my dreams at the Polynesian! It is by far our most favorite resort. We also stayed at, and loved, CBR.

As nice as WL is, it would not do it for us. We thought it was beautiful the last we were there but both DH and I said we would never see ourselves booking there.

We love the resorts that make us forget Minnesota!:p The beach atmosphere of the Polynesian and the CBR was perfect for us.

We are leaving in a couple of weeks and will be staying at the Boardwalk (my kids got to decide on the resort). I am hoping it will be nothing like Minnesota and we will love it as well!

Former Minnesotan: grew up in north central MN, graduated from Minneapolis suburban hs, and St. Olaf

WL reminds me of both MN and Maine! I too go for contrasts--love to stay at the Polynesian, CSR, and POR (for that bayou feel). I also don't like BB as much as TL -- way too much melted plastic snow for me!

Hi there,

LIved in my Minnesota all my life!

Our favorite resort is Animal Kingdom Lodge wiht OKW being a close second.

AKL is pretty cool with all the animals and the beautiful decor/theming.

Another MN resident checking in!

My favorite resort is POFQ - I'm so excited to be going back in May. I really love the small size of this resort. And my son loved the pool last time we were there. I really like CBR too but POFQ is my first love. I've never stayed at a Deluxe but would love to try the Poly sometime. Maybe if AP rates come out for May I'll try talking DH into it. We really don't spend a lot of time at the resort though so it's hard to justify the extra cost.

I loved CBR and the feel of the Polynesian (never stayed - hope to in the coming years). We also really enjoyed POR - it was nice to be surrounded by something other than the usual, you know?

Gosh - didn't know that there were so many of us on these boards! Hi neighbors! :wave2:

jenanderson-you will love BW (BWV would be even better in our opinion). At 40 plus years in Minnesota (SW MN now EP) any WDW resort is great but BWV is our favorite, VWL a close second even though it is like N MN, BCV is also right behind. mnhockeymom you should try WL sometime-often $179.

I love WL. We are staying there on our next trip! But, my favorite has to be GF.I could live there. It's soooo beautiful. I feel like a princess when I stay there princess: . I'll be staying at GF for my big 15th wedding anniversary trip in 2 years.I can't wait:hyper:

I am married to a Minnesotan...does that count??? My husband is true Minnesotan, and even though he has lived in Texas for almost five years now, his heart will always be Minnesotan. ::yes::

Anyways, we both have chosen POFQ as our Disney Resort for our May trip.

Good luck and have fun planning. Stay warm!!

We tend to go to Florida when it is winter here in Minnesota and so I am not interested in being anyplace that I think of as "dark." This means that we prefer resorts like Caribbean Beach, Beach Club, Grand Floridian, Old Key West and so on. My spouse and I have always found Animal Kingdom and Wilderness Lodge to be a bit on the dark side for us, probably because it is so blessed dark during the winter up here in the frozen north(smile). We also love the white sand beaches and anything that says warmth and summer.

But really, we all have our personal preferences. And there isn't any such thing as a wrong personal preference for one resort or another. After all, if we all liked the exact same kind of resort, there would only be one single type and we would all be fighting for space there(smile).

Hello fellow Minnesotans! We love POFQ. We like how everthing is smaller and it's a shorter walk to the pool and the food court. Plus the boat rides at night are really relaxing after a day at the parks.

As you can tell by my sig, we're fans of Riverside, mainly due to the need to accomodate 5 of us. We adore POR--it's certainly worlds different than Minnesota! I love to just walk along all the paths and enjoy the lush scenery. We used to go in January for even greater contrast, but since DDs are older, now it's summer. I've been stalking my post man hoping for one of those postcards with a great code!

Off topic--does anyone own a VW bug with Mickey-esque license plates and a Mickey on the hood and was driving around Coon Rapids about two months ago? Neat car!

Another Minnesotans checking in.....

We have only stayed at two WDW resorts.
I hated the CBR (bus problems and just too big) and the Poly...which is LOVED, I wish we could stay there all the time!!!!
We are staying at the Contemporary in June, mainly to be close to Magic Kingdom.

I also hope to some day stay at the Yacht Club, but we will see if that will ever happen! LOL!

I too am a FORMER Minnesotan (Wilmar) now living in Texas. But I still have a love for the north country. So, Wilderness Lodge is perfect for us. I get my Minnesota type atmosphere and my wife gets warm weather.

Unfortunately, WL doesn't have good beer battered walleye. :)

Hail, Minnesotans!
Our favorites are GF and YC/BC. My DD-12 loves GF because it was the first place she stayed at when she was 4 (oh so spoiled - we were on a business trip!) Once she had a taste of fine living at the GF, she was spoiled for life. I love it there because of the monorail, the lagoon and the cute little ladies with their parasols. My DS-10 loves the YC because it's the first place he stayed at WDW. He loves the pool, the surry bikes and Epcot is his favorite park. I love the close proximity to Epcot and MGM, the fabulous restaurants on the Boardwalk and that walking path along the canal to the International Gateway. We will be at both the BCV and GF in October over MEA! Are we lucky or what? Fun thread!

Another vote for POFQ!! We've stayed there on both of our trips but next time we hope to stay at the Beach Club.
Dh lived in New Orleans fora year and we like the laid back feel of a smaller resort.
Of course, the beignets are to die for!!!!:hyper:

Hello Minnesota DISers!!

What a great way to meet and greet our fellow Minnesotans! Although we loved our stay at the BC at Christmas, our hearts belong to the "lodges". Words can't express how stunning they are in their Christmas splendor.

Now if only we could move our countdown timer along faster...Yahoo! ::MickeyMo

Lived in MN for 6th-12th grades, my mom is still there.

My mom loves Old Key West. We had a two bedroom for her birthday, and she never wanted to leave. My vote would be for Old Key West and Ft. Wilderness Cabins.

Warm smiles from Columbia Heights, MN....I absolutely love Disney and we always stay at the All-Star Movies.

My daughter loves the Dalmations she wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.
