Minne Marathon Team List

Maybe I am a weirdo, but I actually prefer the rain. As long as it is the gentler sort of variety and not a torrential downpour. It keeps me cooler, the sun isn't beating down and generally, I don't get as thirsty. The things that I think are most helpful in the rain are non-cotton socks and a visored hat to keep the rain off your face. I'm more worried about heat and humidity, so I've been kind of hoping for rainy....

Oh, and plan to pack a towel in your checked bag, I guess. :)

Guaranteed if you wear your WISH shirt I will find you and come see you.

I confess I wld not be as brave to wear mine. However, you can track me down from the pic in my TR. I will be with DD, DS, & DH!

And it would completely make my day if I ran into a WISHer to start my trip!!!:goodvibes

DH told me I should wear my WISH hat so we can find each other! :goodvibes

i, too, have never ran in the rain..

what will the pavement be like? slippery?

I don't find it to be at all slippery. Splashy, sometimes, if there are puddles. Mostly, it's not that different from dry pavement, though. Unless the temperature gets much under 32 degrees, of course. Fortunately, we'll be in Florida in May, not Minnesota in March. :)

The Boardwalk section(wood planks) can get slick from rain. Some of the parks walkways get a little slippery. The roads will have no problems.

What about blisters? My sister is worried that if it rains she will no doubt get blisters from wet sneakers/socks -- she claims she always does...
Anything i can relay to her to calm her?? She is doing the 15k on Sunday..

As for me, i don't really care -- like Corinna said, i am sure it is almost better than having the scorching sun beating on you the whole time -- but, i that being said, i am sure pouring rain is definately not fun --- just the gentle kind --

Ok, we DIS'ers are too picky are we?? LOL

Where are you reading about rain? Accuweather doesn't mention rain.

Is there anyone staying at POP that has a car and will be going over to get race packet Friday afternoon and want to take an extra passenger? Let me know.

Let the Minnie nightmares begin! Last night I dreamt I was late getting to the meet at POR and I missed the group picture!

Ran my 8 mile long run yesterday!!! Every long run (anything over a 5K) has been a first for me and I am so excited!!!

Of course my stomach hasn't been quite right since last night but I am attributing that more to the time of month than anything else...TMI I know but i am glad to have that over with before the race!!!!!!!!

I don't have any lime green, I can't make the meets because of ADR's and I haven't been on the board much but I am planning to seek you all out anyway! I do have some green Mickey head paint chips from Home Depot that I might pin to my shirt!!!!!!!!

PS, we depart on Wednesday after work!

Weather.com is calling for scattered thunderstorms. Generally in Orlando those won't pop up until the day heats up.

Wow we must be neighbors!!! :cool1: I was planning on doing the Bull Run 10k but didn't realize it was the week before the Minnie 15k and I am not in the shape to push it and do 2 races back to back like that. The 10k race is put on my by running group (Boca Raton Road Runners)

I hope you weren't too tired for your 10k this morning and I am curious to see how it went. I wanted to volunteer but then house remodeling projects happened and I am busy today (just taking a break!!)

I am local to the Boca Raton area so if you are local to that area as well maybe we will see each other sometime.

We're definitely neighbors! I live in Boca pretty close to Runner's Edge. The 10K was great! I hadn't really prepared for it but decided to force myself to sign up anyway - I figured I could always walk. For some reason I felt great the whole time and finished only 2 minutes slower then when I had trained for it 2 years ago.

I've always wanted to join the Road Runners but with three kids my schedule is always changing so I never know if I could make any of the runs. Someday I'll join though!

When do you leave for Disney? We go Thursday - my kids and I are off the wall!

I would make sure she puts on bodyglide(and maybe even pack it with her during the race). This will reduce the chance.

As Carol mentioned, T-shirts usually hit in afternoon. But you never know. One thing fun about racing that you can't control is weather. You just have to become a better planner.

Caitsmama: for your sister, probably should wear socks that are NOT made of cotton. Maybe that will help keep her from getting blisters (since cotton gets and stays wet). I don't think we should be worried about the Rain, but the words "thunder storms." I'm sure we will still race in the Rain, but if there is Lightning near by - that will give us trouble. On weather.com, on Saturday 5/3 it says Overnight Low of 70 degrees (I guess that means Sunday morning low?); On Sunday 5/4, it says Overnight Low of 53 degrees (that probably means late Sunday and early Monday morning. Oh well, sounds like it will be warm Sunday morning.

Good grief, you will totally rock the Minnie putting in that kinda mileage! So I guess Minnie is just a cutback run? Which RnR is on June 1? I'm doing RnR in Va Beach, but not til Labor Day weekend.

Actually, I'm kind of worried that I will have an awful run at the Minnie because my mileage has been so high leading up to it. But, I'm not really that worried - I'm going to Disney, I'm going to have fun, so its all good:cool1:

The RnR on June 1 is the San Diego one (DH is from there so we can combine the trip to run a marathon and see his parents). I ran VA Beach last year and it was the best overall race weekend experience ever! (of course, I haven't done a Disney race yet). The race finishes on the beach and there is a band playing. It was great to grab a free beer and wade out into the ocean as a modified ice bath. And your bib gets you into the concerts on Fri, Sat, and Sun night (all on the beach). We missed Friday, Saturday was the Steve Miller Band - great concert, and Sunday was INXS - pretty good. You should have a great time.

What do y'all do to prepare for rain? I am still a relative newbie and have never had to run in rain :scared1:

Running in the rain when it is warm out is actually not that bad. A hat or visor to keep the rain off your face is probably the most important thing. I just ran a half marathon last weekend and it rained the entire time (sometimes very heavy) but it was 60 degrees and I was pretty comfortable for the race.

Yes, by this time next week we all would be finished with the Minnie!! We'll all be struting around showing off our medals!! :cool1:

WEEEEEEE, I am excited!!

T-shirts usually hit in afternoon - :lmao: - Don't know if I want to be hit with any of those T-shirts :rotfl2: but yes t-storms in Florida usually come in the afternoon so we should be good!! :thumbsup2 And if it does rain :woohoo: just have a good time any way - at least you will be at Disney!!

I am really thinking I need to get some body glide - my left foot is getting a funky blister/callus and I think the body glide might help. Looks like a trip to the running store is in order.

That is great on the 10k - wow only 2 minutes slower then when you actually trained - I was able to get in my last long run before the Minnie. :cool1: I so didn't want to get out there this morning but once I got out there and into it I was fine. I ended up doing 8 miles in 1 hour 40 mins - just a little slower than my 13k but I figure I always push myself harder in a race.

We were planning to leave for Disney on Saturday morning but I decided I have to go a day early so we are driving up after a half day at work on Friday. Not staying at a Disney hotel on Friday but there were no values available and I am not paying more for a moderate than what I am paying at the AKL for the rest of my trip. So I decided to stay at a cheap hotel (didn't know there still were any of those left!! ;) )

Are you doing the 5k or 15k? I can't believe by this time next week Minnie will be done!!

Man,..... I sure do hate it when those T-shirts hit you, they aren't too hard but when they come flying at you be careful!!

At least you can see those lime green ones coming from a distance......!
