Has anyone ever had to get their power sliding door fixed??? We have a toyota sienna and the side doors are automatic. Well the cable that pulls the door open broke and I cannot even begin to imagine what the dealer will charge to fix it. Anyone ever have this happen??? We are way out of warranty.
Thanks

No, but this is something I really dread too, especially since my girls are forever spilling drinks in the tracks.....good luck, let us know what you find out.

This same thing happen to my 98 Ford Windstar! We paid $750 :scared1: to replace the whole motor assembly to the door (they don't just sell a replacement cable). This repair work was done by our small town mechanic.

Good Luck!

I was lucky enough to get mine fixed under warranty but I did end up driving home with the stupid door open. I hate power doors.

My friend has a Honda minivan. Her power door broke and it cost $1000 dollars to get it fixed. I am so glad my van does not have power doors. Yikes $1000 is a lot to fix a door!

we have a chevy venture...had that stupid thing to the shop several times...our opens then wont close all the way, then opens again. i hate it so bad & cant wait to trade it in. i hope you can get your fixed cheaply

We have a sienna too and I dread the day it happens. This past winter they started to stick in extremely cold temps. We only have 1 automatic door so we were able to use the other until the weather warmed up or we parked it in our garage.

Is you car still under warranty? If so, it should be covered. We just had the motor actuator replaced under warranty in our 3 year old Entourage after the sliding door started to only work on manual power. My kids are all too small to manually open the door so I was glad when that got fixed. :goodvibes

You can call around to various dealers and mechanics and get price quotes.

Good luck!

ETA - Just went back and re-read that the car is out of warranty. Sorry for not catching that sooner! One option is that if you have an idea of what part needs to be replaced, you can call late model junkyards and get a price on the part. Granted, since it's a moving part getting a used one runs the risk of it not lasting as long as new, but it can't hurt to call around. I had to get a few things for an older Honda Accord I had a while back and it's amazing the kind of electronic inventory junkyards have these days - what would have cost me a few hundred dollars at the dealer was only $75 from a junkyard.

Yikes....after researching this problem on line looks like people were paying an estimate of $1500 - $3000 to fix it. :scared1:

We have a 2004 Sienna and the sliding door just broke in June. It had gotten stuck a few times and then one day we opened it and it wouldnt close. It was trying to open/close but it kept getting stuck half way. My local service station told me it would be at least $1500 to fix it.

We just cut the wire and now use it as a manual door. (All the others are manual too) I was planning on trading it in anyway in the fall - so it didnt make sense to pay all that money to fix it. I googled it and realized that I was not the only one who has had this problem!

My Saturn relay has had to have a power slider fixed. It was still under warranty, so I have do idea the cost. I have had sensor and motor issues.
Saturn repaired it a couple of years ago. Well, the part is failing again. So I will go to another GM dealer when we get up to Virginia. Extended Warranties are usually a waste of money---but I have more than made uo the cost.

Can your door still operate without the part?

My door can until you have to fight it to keep it shut. (basically---it doesn't want to stay closed and fights you as it reopens. Open or shut and it is fine---getting it shut is the problem.)

We have the exact same problem with our venture but only when it's parked in our driveway and only with one door. I love the car but that door drives me crazy.

went to see a body shop mechanic today to look at my door. He called the Toyota dealer and found out that there was a bulletin posted on this same problem. Those under warranty were having the whole mechanism replaced at no charge. Im over warranty but the guy seems to think Toyota may do something for me. Said out of all motor companies Toyota has been really stepping up to the plate to back up their warranties even if your over. I may try to bring it and see what happens....wish me luck.

This happened to me. I have a 2005 Sienna. I took it in and they said it would cost $800 to fix it. I asked them if there was anything else I could do, like unhook the automatic door operation and they told me no. I ended up leaving and calling 3 different dealerships until I finally got ahold of someone in the service department who was upfront with me. He told me they COULD cut the cable so we could open and close the door ourselves. I went back to my dealership and told them to cut it. I happened to be in for an oil change too and they didn't charge me for cutting the cable. Works just fine now but we have to open and close it manually.

Good luck.

We had a '98 Olds minivan and the auto slider went out. We price it around 2005 and it was $750. We bought our new Toyota Sienna in '07 and we specifically bought the CE model because we didn't want all the extras that would die and need replaced eventually.

We have a 2004 Sienna and the power door has not been working for at least a year. I think the dealership told my DH well over $1500..... the whole door or something would have to be replaced. We also have had the doors freeze shut every winter (pretty much every day) since we've owned it. Really a pain!

I can remember at least two times, after defrosting the doors, that they would close...but not quite enough for the car to "sense" that they were closed and so we had to drive around with the "open door" alert beeper going off the entire time! One night, I drove my girls all the way to dance class and back with the alert beeping. We even turned the radio up full blast to try to drown out the beeping! LOL! Talk about making you crazy! When we finally got home I screamed "I'm so sick of this beepin car!!!!"....DS, who was 12 or 13 then, broke into hysterics! He got in the house and said "Hey Dad, mom is sick of the beepin' car!" We still laugh about that!
