The minimum for non-members is 100 points. and the current price is $120 less $6 promotional discount for 110-159 points. $120 less $8 promotional discount for 160-219 points. $120 less $16 pro. discount for 220-319 points. They do have special ofers on top of this. you will need to contact DVC for details.
We bought into SSR as new members with only a 50 pt. contract back in 2010. That wasn't enough points for us, so we have since added on with more points at BLT. I think speaking with a DVC guide is your best chance of finding out how many points you can buy in with.
Or guide just called and said we could purchase a 50pt contract. Just last week he told us 100pts was the minimum. I guess the rules change when they are trying to make a sale!
This number really seems to float. It's been all over the place. Wasn't it 250 or something way back before coming down to 160? Then as the economy went south it seems like it just kept dropping.
we bought in at 50 pp for our first contract. It was a great buy for BLT at the time and it was a special they had before a price increase.
Obviously that is really not enough points for us. We are staying 5 days in a standard view 1 bedroom and paying a little extra for the additional points needed. But this is what we could afford to pay to start out with.
We will definately be adding on and will do them in small alloutments in order to have them available to split between kids or to sell of later if necessary.
Which leads to my opinion that there really isn't a minimum. I do think there's a 25 point add-on minimum for existing members (though, I thought that too at one time was closer to 50).
They only thing that seems true right now is that the minimum through Disney for a new purchaser is 100 if you want any discount off asking price but it seems you can go as low as 50 if that will get a sale.
The minimum used to be always a set and known amount that no one could get below. In the very early days it was something like 225; not sure of the exact progression but at one point it was 140 for a short period and then for a very long time it was 150. It went to 160 in the early 2000s and stayed there until the crash in 2008. Since then it has been more variable at times with 100 being a common figure but then as low as 50 appeared last year at times and now this year; actually that 50 may have been for most of last year and all of this except it is not broadcasted -- some just get it when it looks like they won't go for 100.
The add-on minimum has been at all times as far as I can remember 25 and they have never sold below that.
