Minimize Character Wait-Times?

How do you maximize seeing all the characters for a shorter wait time??

My little sister loves the autographs, but I think we waste time sometimes waiting for the special characters!

I am not one who cares for the characters, but DD likes it so we do it. Last time we saw a bunch in front of town hall. I let her pick who she wanted to see. We saw 4 of them in not much time at all and she was happy with that.
