I recently purchased a JVC mini DV camcorder, and I was wondering if it matters what brand mini DV tapes that I use with it.
Should I only stick to JVC tapes, or can I use any brand tapes?
I ask because the JVC tapes seem to be more expensive, and I'm a cheapskate. :thumbsup2

I was told by the guy at my local camera shop (Vistek) that you should pick one brand of tape and stick to it because there are various solvents on the tape that will rub off onto the heads and other componets of your camcorder.

This would be more of a preventative precaution than anything because the solvents are most likely of a similar chemical composition. Although, even if they're slightly different a small chemical reaction can occur which, over time, could cause the degradation of your camcorder. This is how a Petroleum Engineer interprets the advice from a camera store employee. He was quite knowledgeable about the camcorders though!

P.S. I'm heading out to buy my Panasonic PV-GS300 this weekend! It's on sales for $700 CDN (regularly $800 CDN)....you American's sure have it nice!
