DD and her husband are just back so she wanted to share a mini review of her free dining experiences. I'll try to post some of her food porn later.
Be Our Guest (dinner) - Outstanding, both the food and the service. They checked in a few minutes before their ADR time, were given a beeper thing which went off two minutes later. So, basically, they were seated immediately.
Though they were on the free dining plan, they decided to also order appetizers here as DD had the salad last year and wanted it again. She had the salad trio, the ratatouille quinoa and she took one of the desserts with her (but never ate it). DSIL had the salmon and the strawberry cheesecake dessert. Both said everything they ate was super delicious!!
They also enjoyed the meet and greet with Beast (you get a voucher when you finish eating to meet Beast on the way out).
Plaza Restaurant (first time for DSIL) (lunch 2 times) - they originally were scheduled to eat here only once, but they enjoyed it so much, they ate there a second time. Both times the food and service were outstanding! This restaurant has now joined their list of favorites.
Yak & Yet (lunch two times) - one of their favorite restaurants - they ate here twice this trip - as always, the food was "amazing". Two thumbs way way up for yak & yeti!!
San Angel Inn (first time eating here) (lunch two times) - this is the restaurant that is inside Mexico ('inside the pyramid'). We've never eaten there as we'd heard a lot of bad things about it, but DD decided to try it this year. She wanted to try a few new places along with our old faithfuls. Well, she said it was outstanding!! They loved the food and the service was good as well. They liked it there so much that they added an ADR there for the end of their holiday. The second time they ate there, they again had lunch (that was their all mexican day, as they had dinner at La Hacienda that day). Both times they ate at San Angel Inn everything was fantastic. It now has joined DD's list of favorite WDW restaurants!!
La Hacienda (first time eating here) (dinner) - this is the restaurant that is outside of the pyramid (though it is an indoor restaurant). From the big windows you can see illuminations. And this is what DD and DSIL were hoping for. They had an ADR for dinner. When they checked in they asked for a window seat and got one with a perfect view for illuminations!
DSIL ordered the short ribs and said it was his best meal the entire two weeks at WDW (and he had a lot of good meals, so that's saying something). They said the food and service were outstanding and this restaurant too has joined their list of favorite WDW restaurants.
Tusker House (lunch) - they had eaten here before, but not when it was a character meal, so the characters were a nice surprise - especially Donald, whom they hadn't been able to see anywhere else! They said the food here was great!! even better than the last time we had lunch there. DSIL said there was an even bigger selection than in the past.
Akershus (first time eating here) (lunch) - DD and DSIL enjoyed the experience here. They said the food was only so so, but it was very enjoyable nevertheless with the princesses and setting. They said that anyone who likes princesses should make it a must do!!
Liberty Tree Tavern (first time eating here) (lunch) - for them, the food was only so so, however, they really enjoyed the experience and recommend it to anyone who likes thanksgiving style cooking. They thought the restaurant itself is lovely - with a nice feeling to it. And the service was outstanding. Just the food doesn't match them. They thought other people would probably like the food a lot.
Rose and Crown (dinner) - this has been a favorite, especially for illuminations. DD and DSIL had a perfect table for viewing the fireworks and had outstanding service from their scottish server. DSIL said his salmon was very good, DD didn't like her fish and chips. But it still is one of their favorites.
Sci Fi Dine in (lunch 3 times) - as the 3 ADRs indicate, this has been DD and DSIL's favorite for many years. Until now. Apparently, the menu has been changed which was a problem for DD. They no longer have the vegetarian pasta that she often had. And they've changed the veggie burger. She used to love the old veggie burger. She found the new one to be very spicy and was sick afterwards each time. She said that on their next trip they'll only eat there once for the atmosphere and instead of eating their several times as they usually do, they'll go back to 50's (which they didn't eat at this year).
Via Napoli (first time eating here) (dinner) - they HATED it here. Really really hated it! Once into the meal they realized that it was stupid to put it on the dining plan, so they paid out of pocket. They thought the food was just mediocre - they said they've had far better pizza at our corner pizza joint. And the service was the worst service in the history of service. This was the worst CM they encountered their entire stay. Really really really bad service. So combine bad service with so so food that's not value for money on the dining plan and you have 2 thumbs way way down.
