Mine Train @ Magic Kingdom

My family and I just returned from a trip to WDW Sunday night. We've all been trying to figure out if it's our imagination or not - it seemed like the Mine Train was running much slower than we remember it running in the past. Even my kids mentioned it. Has anyone else had this experience?

Interestingly, on our second trip post-Mine Train, we thought it was running faster. We wondered if they'd sped it up!

After a few more rides, however, we've concluded that it's where you sit in the train that makes all the difference to your perception of how quickly it is, or isn't, running.

The front of the train feels very slow, compared to the back.

I suspect it's running at the same, somewhat relaxed, speed it's always run.

agree, I do think it's where you sit in the train that influences the perception of speed. We have usually gotten a front or first car and it feels fast to us.

I've ridden in the front and again in the back back-to-back, and there's a big difference between the two. BTMRR is the same way.

To be fair, a year is a long time to remember something accurately.

I always find that the first couple of times I ride something that excitement plays into my perspective. After those first few times, I tend to get a real feel for the ride.

I rode SDMT about 3 times within 10-15 minutes in January. The first two times felt fast, but I figured lack of guests on the trains might have played into that. The first ride was from the front row and was just us. The second ride was the last row with 3 in the front row. The third time was somewhere in the middle but with about half the car filled. The first two rides felt faster, but it was mostly that it was my first rides and lack of people made it more exciting.

When I rode SDMT in June, it was fun since there were 4 year olds riding with us, but it was about what I remembered from the third ride in January, speed wise.

I think that the front of the train appears to be slower - sounds silly but it is down to physics. When you come to a drop the front of the train goes over the edge but the weight of the train is still on the flat or rise towards the drop - the train goes faster as the full weight is added so the highest speed is reached when the whole train is going down the drop. The problem is that, by the time this happens the lead car is close to the bottom so the distance travelled at speed appears to be shorter whereas the rear car goes over the top at full speed so the sensation is greater.
