Has anyone used the free military 5-day pass or bought the family passed yet? Any great deals on hotels? Do you know the hotels available under the program? Any info would be helpful.

Right now there are two options for military for lodging.

1) Call Shades of Green. They are under renovation, but if rooms are available, they will get your rooms at the Contemporary at the SAME rate you would pay at SOG. That's a STEAL!!! We just booked rooms with no problem. Although I was on hold forever!

2) Call Disney and ask them to give you a quote for all of the resorts with a military discount. There were some really good deals, IMO. I called and got quotes and they were great, but the SOG deal was unbeatable.

We are taking advantage of the military deal in September. I should really say that we are HOPING to take advantage of that in Sept. DH is in training and you know the military, anything can happen. Fingers crossed that we are WDW bound in Sept.

Does anyone know if you can get a military discount on the Fairy Tale Package being offered? This question if fore retired military discount, not active duty. Thanks

Ziggy, I'm not sure about the Fairy Tale Package, but I would be surprised if there are any further discounts that could be tagged onto that deal. In as far as hotel deals, I discovered that overflow rates are available at all WDW Resorts (based on availability, I'm sure). We stayed at Beach Club over Memorial Day weekend for $189/night!!! We had stayed there over Spring Break (in March) at the Florida Resident Passholder Rate of about $249/night.

I just booked our October trip under the Armed Forces Salute. We got 6 nights at Coronado Springs for $628 with tax, and then the military member gets a free 5 day hopper, and family members get the 5 day hopper for $99 each. For more info on these offers, you can call (407) 939-7424.

Thank you Uncle Al and 8 Caliace for your response. Looks like I will just book the Fair Tale Package on my own. I did not think there would be any additional to this package but it never hurts to ask.

Novafan, do you know if you book your reservation for the Contemporary at the Shades of Green rates, are you able to upgrade to the towers when you check in for an additional fee. Also, do you know if the ultimate ticket prices and hopper passes are any less at Shades of Green than they are at Paramont International Travel. I went to the Shades of Green web site but was unable to open the ticket prices with excel.
Thank you for any info you can give on this. This is my first time looking into using a military discount while at Disney World.

I realize you didn't ask me - but I might be able to shed some light on your questions. First, when we made our reservations for Memorial Day weekend (and ended up with the great rate at the Becah Club) I first checked into Contemporary. After the individual quoted the rate for the Garden Wing I asked if I could pay more and upgrade to the Tower - the answer was an unfortunate NO. It seems, however, that I have raed of folks that have been upgraded to the Tower after being booked in the Garden Wing - you could take your chances. As far as the tickets -my recollection is that ticket prices are less (not a significant difference) through Shades of Green. There is a toll free number on the website - give them a call. Have you checked overflow rates through SOG that might be available at other resorts- say Beach / Yacht or Boardwalk? I would be interested to know what kind of rates they are quoting for those resorts, if you have checked. Good Luck!

Thank you Uncle Al for the response, I addressed my question to novafan only because I saw where they had booked their rooms with the Contemporary. I do appreciate any and all responses I get. I can not even begin to tell you how much valuable information I have received from these boards since I began reading just a few days ago. The bigest benefit is learning about Shades of Green. We have been to Disney World many times but never looked into Shades of Green. I am still really new to this and learning something new every day. Thank you again for your input.

Uncle Al, I just got off the phone with reservations at Shades of Green and was quoted a price of $164 for a standard room at Beach and $164 for a Garden view or $199 for a Water view at Boardwalk. We are going the middle of July. She did say that these rates are updated daily by the resorts.

Ziggy--

I'd take the garden view at the BWI--the water view can be noisy, and is'nt always a boardwalk view :(

Anne

novafan,

DH and I are also going through SoG in September. What are your dates? Will I see your lime green ribbon there?
