Milk!!

I am at the prices some of you are paying! I just looked at the Meijer ad for this week and milk is on sale for $2.77/gal. I believe the normal price is $2.92. When I have to buy 5 gallons a week, that really adds up!

Our Meijer is expensive for milk and eggs -- milk was $3.99/gallon and eggs were $1.79 on Friday when I went. I didn't buy it -- Sams is close by and I usually go to there since they are about $2.89 or so. We go through 6 gallons per week -- it really adds up!!!

Braum's milk is about $3.59 for 1%, within .10 of that for others. Cheaper than other stores and tastes much better.

I have two kids and go through a gallon of milk a day. Just bought 4 at Wegmans for $3.19/gallon.

We have an acre plus lot. I've always said that I want a cow. Figure we'll get milk, she'll eat the grass, provide fertilizer and after a few years, we've got steaks!

It was $3.58 at our local Wal-Mart yesterday for a gallon of 1%. A gallon of 1% was $3.09 at Sam's Club today. It had a pretty late date on it, so I picked it up.

My kids go through phases where they drink a lot of milk, or almost none at all - they are in a milk-drinking phase right now.

I bought 2 gallons of whole milk today at Ralph's. I stock up on 2 at a time and buy them once every 2 weeks. They were 2 for $5.29. I think the price has gone down here.

OK, so I went back to Publix today. Bought a box of nonfat dry milk (10 packets = 10 quarts), and ANOTHER gallon of milk. I just made my first gallon using 1/2 dry (reconstituted) and 1/2 1% milk. I'll let you know how it tastes tomorrow. I figure if I like it, I can save 55 cents a gallon. I will need to find cheaper dry milk now. Now if only I could find gasoline for 55 cents cheaper, I'd be set!!!

Milk is by far the most expensive portion of my weekly grocery bill. I buy 2 gallons of store brand organic for DS at $5.29 and 1, sometimes 2 gallons of 1% for 3.59. So even if I spend only $60, over $14 of that is for milk! I have been making powdered milk for baking, mac&cheese, puddings and such. But, I can't stand it in my coffee, so I've switched to cheap powdered creamer for that.

Milk: the only thing more expensive than gas!

I pay about $3.50 for half a gallon of milk. I will only buy organic milk. I had a scare with DD9 a few years ago starting to develop extremely early and I am not taking any chances. No bovine hormones for my baby-no matter what the milk costs.

My kids can tell the difference between brands for milk. I tried Walmarts brand and they wouldn't drink it. They said it tasted horrible. It ended up getting thrown away.
So I pay the 3.99 a gallon for a brand they'll drink. We only use a gallon a week, thank goodness.

I've run into the same problem with many other things when I've tried to buy cheaper brands.
My family is just sooo picky......

My local Kinney Drugs has 1/2 gallon of milk for 99 cents, limit of 4. I'll be heading there tomorrow.

I agree with Walmart's milk tasting bad... And that's why I don't buy from there. Strange thing is that Walmart and Sam's are less than 1/4 mile from each other but they definitely do not get their milk from the same places.

Not counting random (weekly) sales, the cheapest normal price for milk is actually at a nearby Kwip Trip gas station. It used to be $2.69 all the time with those slick $.10 caps for the kiddies' school, but now it's up to $3.09. It's still cheaper than Sam's Club ($3.18 or so today), and those caps help out the school. That gas station also sells bananas for cheap at $.29/lb, too.

I don't drink milk, but DH does, and he needs to use the lactose free milk. The "sale" price for 2 cartons last week was 2/$7. I am trying to ween him onto water and use milk for coffee only. There is really no need for him to drink so much milk [he goes through about 3 or 4 cartons a week].

I made my powdered milk/1% milk concoction and no one has said anything yet. They are so unsuspecting! I even enjoyed drinking it straight. Slightly watery, but still tasty. So, I will continue this route until further notice.
I am not a fan of Walgreen's milk. I bought two bad gallons in a row. Some Walgreen's around us don't have doors to their refrigerated section. These seem to be the times that my milk tastes funny, like plastic. When they have doors to regulate the temp, it seems to help. But I still shy away from them.
