Milk bottled in 3/4 gallon vs 1 gallon

We go through 4 to 5 gallons of milk a week in our house, so more platic is not the answer. Just more landfill waste, IMO, and/or more fuel costs for the recycling trucks because there will that much more garbage waiting to be recycled.

Milk here is still cheap. Last week is was 3 gallons for $6 and this week it's $2.33 per gallon. I would be forever going to the store daily if they made the milk containers smaller.

They have done this with a lot of products and more to come. I just posted on another thread also that ice cream is not half a gallon (2 qts.) but 1.75 or something.

Bars of soap packages that used to hold 4.5 oz soap bar - has shrunk to 4 oz - the package on the outside looks the same sometimes and on top of this they increase prices slowly.

I saw the "3/4 gallon" of milk on NBC news a couple of nights ago. It's supposed to be "a more convienient packaging option". I laughed when I saw it - how dumb do these marketers think we are?? It's right up there with the "convenient" tiny yogurt containers - that cost as much as the old BIG ones. As the Church Lady used to say, "How conveeeenient!"

I think 3/4 of a gallon would be a GOOD size. Better than a full gallon because honestly, the gallon jugs are big and heavy. My 11 year old can't manage to pour herself a glass of milk from a gallon because it is heavy and akward for her. As a result, I buy only half gallons....the milk gets rotated faster (I always feel like it goes sour faster once it is opened, so having a couple extra half gallons in the fridge is no big deal), and the kids can pour it without spilling (and therefore wasting it).
