I just found out my 15 month old has a milk allergy. She can't eat anything with milk in it. Does anyone know if there are places that will help with it. We are wanting to character meals. She loves to eat, I don't know what to do.

Yep. We took DD to WDW when she was that age and had a milk (and egg) allergy too. To make things more complicated I couldn't eat anything with it in it also (breastfeeding mom.)

WDW is very good about food allergies.

Sit down places are easier. The chief will come out and talk with you. Counter services aren't to bad though, it just takes a little work. There is a lot of furit and such at most buffets too (like CP.)

We had a heck of a time getting snacks in WS, all had milk (or egg in it.)

For a 15 month old I would mostly take my own food with me though, except maybe sit down places.

Best of luck. Oh DD turns 3 next month. She has outgrown the egg. The milk we don't have to avoid minor or cooked milk products. She doesn't drink milk or eat ice cream yet.

Oh that reminds me, most sit down places will have soy iceream (or rice) for her.

I feel your pain!!! My DS had a dairy allergy the last time we were there(Dec)
WDW is great with allergy's. My little guy had a contact reaction too so I understand your fear. Make sit down ADR's they will be the best but so you know the table service is good too, just check ahead of time. Call WDW and also track down the menu on allears.net Good Luck!! You will be fine. Any questions do not hesitate to email me. I became a champ with food labels. Watch shampoo's and toothpastes too. I am happy to say he just has an egg allergy now.

There are several posts about food allergies on the disabilities board. Go there. They have the name of the person to get a hold of (Brenda somebody) that will e-mail you a list of counter services and what allergy free products that they carry. My daughter also has an allergy to milk. I printed out the e-mail, highlighted what she would want that was soy or rice related in the parks that we were going to and laminated it and put it in my backpack that I use when we are at the parks. I still have it somewhere! That way when she wanted ice cream I knew which place would have soy or rice ice cream for her. Outside of renting a house or cabin and cooking all the food myself Disney is a easy vacation to do with food allergies.

GoofyG, I don't know how new your DD's allergy is (my DD's didn't developed it until she had her 2nd encounter with milk at 7 months old.) We didn't really know for sure about it until she was 12 months old. It was a real adjustment for us. I don't know how you are doing with your DD's allergy, but if you ever want to talk about pm me, or we can on this thread. I have a bunch of websites I found helfpul. There are a lot of mothers who have been through it. It is a real learning experience.

Best of luck. WDW is one of the best places to go when you have food allergies.

Just curious what are the symptoms your kids have with the milk allergy? DS is 13 months and he's been on soy formula since he left the hospital and now is on soy milk. Whenever I try to switch to regular milk, he gets very loose stools. So, we go back to soy. Do they outgrow this? The worst part is having to bring soy milk with us everywhere we go. He doesn't really eat anything else dairy yet.

My allergist said that most babies with milk allergies DO outgrow them, but there is no promises. Some adults still do have them.

My DD's signs were we got a rash around her face with in seconds of having something with even the most minor amount of milk in it (like an animal cracker.) She would vomit up anything that was made of milk.

Now at almost 3 years old it is a lot less of a deal. She eats a number of things with milk in it and we even let her have some direct milk products (like cheese and yogurt.) She will sometimes get a small rash if she has too much, but does not complain of any other problems. We also give her probitoic pills (the cultures in yogurt). Good for your tummy and digestion. Some say it helps with allergies, it has seemed to her for. (she likes them, we get chewable tabs at whole foods.) She had testing last year that showed the egg was gone, the milk was minimal. She does not like the taste of milk, but loves cheese, yogurt and ice-cream. She still can't have much ice cream with out getting a rash.
Stick with what works for now, but it sounds like your child should outgrow it. At 1 year old they can start testing for allergies. You might want to consider it. We would have had a very hard time discovering the egg one with out tests.

My soon to be 4 yo is allergic to dairy. We took him in 2005 & he was fine.

I was nervous at first but I overcame that after the first night at Chef Mickey's & I wanted to hug & kiss the chef when he showed me what was safe & even made him his own steamed broccoli & potato.

He is also allergic to peanut & tree nuts & at the time we went to WDW he was slightly allergic to egg & beef too, but I think he still is slightly allergic to them but he does eat some now.

What did he eat? His staple-chicken nuggets/strips. He was 22 months when we went, do you think I was going to argue with him? Heck no. He did eat some pasta at some places & some veggies too. He even had rice dream ice cream a few times but mainly messy popcicles in the hot July sun!

He also had the turkey leg, the pretzel from Germany, etc.... They have a list at the carts to see what the ingriedients are, or most of them. They didn't in Germany but they got the chef & he gave me a print out.

I did encounter some difficulties a few times I went to counter service. Some of the CM's that were taking the orders didn't know what I was talking about when I asked to see the ingriedients.

I did bring breakfast for him which at the time was bagels & I brought his butter (Earth Balance).

Go on the WDW site & look for the help area or contact us. Then state your question & Brenda (if she is still there) will get back to you. When you call for ADR's just let them know your child has a food allergy & they note it.

Brenda called me & I was so happy when she said the chicken was safe because that was his staple & still is, he wants it for breakfast.

But they also have a email they send out too. And I called the Chef from Chef Mickey's & he said I didn't have to call anyone else & when I get there just ask for the chef.

Do you go to the same ped as me? I don't go to the one in your town but the town north of you. But Dr. C sent me to an allergist in Middletown. At first I wasn't impressed with him. He was dry & flat unlike the peds who are usually bubbly.

But now I like the allergist.

I have a list of foods if you want it that have dairy in it. It came from the ped but I scanned it (anyone for that matter).

How I found out my ds was allergic to dairy-

He had very bad excema to the point that his skin on his cheek & partially his ear was missing (you can't tell today that he had no skin=he has no scar). I took him to a dermatolgist in New Haven (a cute one I might add) who cured his face so I was relieved.

Little did I know he was allergic to everything I was eating since I nursed him.

So at about 9 months of age he still would not eat table food, I gave him a piece of cheese & he played with it & wouldn't eat it so I nursed him. He wouldn't nurse. I looked at his face & it was swollen & beet red.

So I figured out between the cheese, the ice cream that he threw up all over me & the cheese it that he threw up on too that he was allergic to dairy.

He did not have runny BM's just the excema.

The ped had me wait until he was a year to see the allergist since he wasn't eating. Just before I took him, I gave him peanut butter & he threw up.

So the allergist tested him for dairy & peanuts & he was allergic to both. He tested him for soy too & that was negative. We are due to go back in September.

I got soy whipped cream from the healh food store on Main street in your town & it wasn't bad. My dh hated as did my ds but me & my oldest liked it.

I jsut stopped BF DD due to the milk allergy. From th eday she was born we found out she had Reflux. She stopprd breathing that night. A hard way of finding out. She was put on Reglan and Zantac. Didn't see much difference on reglan, but she was a happier baby in zantac. They told me she would outgrow her reflux around 6 months. Didn't happen, and her diapers were horrible. Both of my girls don't put on weight so we finally saw a gastro Dr. DD1 had to have a bunch of test run includidng a scope, but because DD2 was younger he didn't want to put her through all of that. So I finally asked what the signs for milk intolerance or an allergy was. My DD loves her milk, and she would drink a whole cup and eat a nice dinner. Then she would turn around and throw up her curd milk, no food at all. She aslo had the diareah diapers 4 or more times a day, and still had reflux. Since we took her off of MILK and anyhting with mikl in it. I have ONE diaper a day, she hasn't refluxed thrown up and her attitude is so different. She is a HAPPY toddler now. They said they will slowly introduce milk to her at age 2 to see how she does. She may or may not out grow it. I wish I would have pushed earlier about the milk. We might not of had some rough months. I would have stopped milk on me, since I BF. That's the hardest part now not getting to BF.

I was just going to ask if dairy allergy and lactose intolerance were one in the same, but this answered my question-apparently not. I never knew there was a difference before. We don't have any allergies to dairy in our house, although I am forever taking lactaid before eggs and cheese consumption. Just for health reasons, we switched to a lot of soy based products. I thnk I'll have to visit the disabilities board to see if I can find out about the soy products that Disney offers as my family would definitely be interested in that. ;)

I am lactose intolerant. My mom said I never drank milk much as a kid (I was breast feed until a toddler.) It wasn't until college when I started having mac and cheese and pizza for dinner all the time I developed lactose intolerant.

I was really much healthier off diary products, I lost 20 lbs over a year (I was about 30 over my idea weight) and since introducing it back in my diet my weight is creeping up, even thought I exercise regularly.) I take Lactaid and a whole regime for IBS (probitoics, fiber, omega 3 and digestive enzymes) and I have not has as hard of time digesting dairy myself since stopping it for a year. It feels good to have pizza now and then too. I have to limit how much I can eat though.

It is the lactose that I can't digest. Not the protein casein that is what people are allergic too (as my DD was.) Not all dairy products have lactose in them (aged cheese and yogurt are better.)

I would check out the website foodallergy.org. Also, see a good pediatric allergist for testing.

My DS is milk and egg allergic. Used to be touch hypersensitive, meaning wherever he touched that had had dairy touching it he would hive up. He had anaphylactic reaction to a teaspoon of milk at 9 months (hives all over, swelling of his ears, vomiting continuously), but that is the worst case scenario. The reactions can be hives in the mouth and throat, vomiting, hives on skin. What you describe could be an allergy, so I'd check it out. Also, it could be another food also. It's a good idea to find out, to avoid a severe reaction. And I'd carry benedryl and an epipen jr. with you everywhere. Just in case.

Good luck!
