Military tickets - what if plans change

Thanks everyone for the feedback. To answer some questions:

1) He could go and not ride anything, but we'll be driving from Texas over two days, so if they decide he can't handle the parks, I'm not sure he'll want to make the drive. He does love car trips though, so we'll see.
2) My mom does have the dependent ID, but she definitely won't make the trip without him (nor would we have room for her in our car if he doesn't go - and she doesn't drive so she can't take a second car).
3) He ordered our tickets directly through Shades of Green, via fax. He and my mom have the Armed Forces Salute tickets (though they only plan to use 3 of the 4 days), and he purchased six 7 -day MYW tickets for my family. This is definitely approved through SoG; we've done it in previous years and we spoke with them this year before he sent in the order form. I have a season pass, so I didn't need a ticket.
4) We do have the actual hard tickets, not vouchers.

The SoG tickets are about $30 less per ticket, so I'm hopeful that we could just pay the (approx.) $180 difference once we got there, if it comes to that. Of course, ideally he would be recovered enough that this won't be an issue. He loves traveling and he's been looking forward to this trip for months, so I know he'll do everything he can to go, but I would love to be able to assure him that the rest of us will be able to handle the ticket situation without him so he doesn't push himself to go if he really doesn't feel up to it.

Again, I really appreciate all of the responses. I lurk a lot but don't usually have questions, but I knew that this was the place to ask. I'll also check out disneymilitarytips.com. Thanks for that suggestion!

If you have the green hard tickets, your dad doesn't need to be there at all. You never do anything with the MYW tickets purchased via ITR or SOG. You just link them to your Magic bands if staying on site and otherwise just tap them at the gate.

Also, I know it was mentioned upthread, but you can take the scooters in most lines and get a return time for the lines he wouldn't fit inside. I hope he feels well soon.

Then you're all set to go! The regular MYW tickets from SoG can be used by anyone and the military member does not need to be there. Your parents will either be out the money they spent on the Salute tickets or they can take a trip later in the year to use them.

The only tickets that need to be activated are the AFS ones. If you have the MYW tickets with the military discount, you don't need your dad; they are ready to use as is.

The AFS tickets from SOG are already activated when you receive them.

When we were there last June we purchased a Salute ticket from SOG for my younger son because he could only be there for 4 days and it was the only ticket that needed activated. We went to DTD to have this done and they did have to see my sons military id card. The others did not need activated so while they do state the military person is supposed to be there with you, they really dont need to be.

Ok just to be sure, (we have always traveled with my dad who is retired military and used AFS tickets), if no military member is going with us (mom and dad can't make our trip next year), can he purchase regular MYW tickets for us on base (saves a little, plus saves the tax)? I don't want to bend rules here, but it sounds like the member can buy MYW for anyone to use, no military ID required? No activation requited? Military ID not needed at turnstiles? Thanks for any information!

Yes, the MYW tickets can be used by anyone with no limit on the amount you can buy. They do not need to be activated, as they are real tickets and not vouchers. They are ready to use as soon as you get them, no ID needed.

Thank you! I don't want to get there and find out we can't use them!
