If I go ahead and add tickets to my room only and later on my brother is able to get me the military salute tickets, will Disney refund me the difference at the gate? I know I will be losing the sales tax I paid. IF they do refund will they just credit my card or give me the cash back? It would be around $400 for two tickets (average $400 4 day hopper vs $197 military salute ticket). Would my fastpass bookings be affected as well?

is your brother the one in the service? To activate them at the gate, he would have to be there - they do a finger scan and they check for a vailid ID

They don't do refunds at the gate.

And just echoing what the PP said: the Military Salute tickets have to be activated on-site by the servicemember, who must show a current ID.

Yes he will be there with me.. I ask because they did refund me the difference at gate a couple of years ago when we got my mom s Florida resident ticket but when I booked the package she had to have the same tickets as us....

You don't "add tickets to a room only reservations." You either purchase tickets separately, in which case they are non-refundable, or you book a package, which you can modify but will incur a change fee and maybe an expedite fee for changes within two weeks of arrival.

If he is going to be there, why don't you just purchase the military tickets now and avoid this situation?

Are you asking if you have a package that include tickets can then convert them into salute tickets and give you the price difference? The answer is no. Your brother needs to buy salute tickets and you need to change your reservation to not include tickets. He will have to be there to activate them and he is only allowed to activate 6 salute tickets per promotional year.

You caught a break, then. They don't typically refund money at the gate. In the future, if you want to book a package (room+tickets with or without dining), you can book it with 1-day tickets, then upgrade each individually after arrival. Of course, then you can't book all your FP+ in advance. There's always a catch, I suppose.

But if your brother buys the military tickets, they can be used to get FP+ as soon as he buys them or whenever that reservation window opens. There's a code on each ticket. I linked ours to my sister's and my room reservations as soon as I bought them.

What Mokat76 said, I am using a travel agent for the first time and I was told as soon as we purchase our tickets we can scan them and attach them to our room/ddp reservations. Salute tickets can be purchased at Shades of Green (it's right across from the Poly) by the service member.

Just to throw this out there, the spouse of the service member can purchase and activate the military salute tickets also.
