I called for a client today. I found out you can get a 4 day military ticket. The husband is an active duty service member. If they want to do a week's stay, can they upgrade to a 6 or 7 day ticket? How does this work?

I'm prior service army, so hears how it worked a few years ago. First option is purchasing your tickets at the shades of green resort on WDW property. Side note, I would seriously look in to staying there as well. Also you can purchase tickets on post/base at the MWR travel.

no upgrading but you can do the water park and more option so 4 park days and 4 water park/disneyquest days. This is what we do. Best bang for your buck. The price for that ticket is 199. They must have military id to activate them and they can buy 6 total.

I think by upgrade OP is talking about the magic your way stars and stripes ticket available from shades of green.

OP- you can find great information regarding military savings at wdwinfo.com
go to discounts then click military

Also you and your clients should really look at shadesofgreen.org
MWR funded onsite property, the breaks down a lot of savings for mil personnel from rooms to tickets.

no the Salute to Heroes ticket is NOT upgradable or changeable or anything. every SM may purchase up to 6 tickets.

we are going in September for ten days and are purchasing 2 tickets for each of us( yes each person can use more than one ticket) for a total of 8 entrances to the parks. we always have a couple of down days built in anyway.

OP, your military client can get 3 different tickets.

* 4-day Armed Forces Salute. You can get 4 park days + park hopper, or 4 park days + water parks & more options, or a combo ticket with 4 park days, park hopper, and water parks & more. Not every base has each ticket choice, but they are available at Shades of Green in WDW. We find it time-consuming to go to SoG for tickets on our precious vacation days, so we get these tickets at a Disney Ticket Booth anywhere on property. Only thing is you pay 6.5% sales tax. You can't add days to them, but you can buy two for each person as long as you don't exceed each qualified military person's allowance of 6 tickets. They expire on Sept 27, 2014. We haven't heard about a follow-up program yet, perhaps in July or August we'll hear.

* Stars and Stripes ticket. Up to 10 park days on a ticket. They are length of stay tickets, meaning they expire a few days after first use. They seem pricey, but they include absolutely everything you could possibly have a ticket for in WDW.

* Regular Disney MYW tickets. These come in choices from 1-10 days. You can add park hopper. You can add water parks & more. You can add both options for quite a savings compared to adding the options individually. Not every base has every ticket, but they can be upgraded by WDW outlets (+tax). Shades of Green doesn't do upgrades. Shades of Green will have these tickets for sale, and you will save roughly the cost of the sales tax on these tickets. As previously stated, I don't want to take the time to go over to SoG but your client might feel otherwise.

Good info:

Thanks for the info. By upgrade I meant add more days. I know if I buy a 4 day ticket and find I need an extra day, I can go to the ticket window and add a day or two. I didn't know if this was possible for them.

They will not be able to add extra days to the 4-day Salute tickets that are ultra cheap. As others have said, they can add the water parks and more option which will give them four entries into the extras. These entries do not have to be within the four days of the parks' ticket; they can be days on their own.

Our family was looking at the Military Salute tickets, but we were hoping for 5 days in the parks. I was thinking about just getting a one day ticket (via our ITT office) for the 5th day. It seems like it would still be less money than buying a 5 day MYW ticket through ITT. Does this sound correct? Would this be the cheapest route for me? We have 5 adult tickets and 1 child ticket to purchase.

So, If I have a military husband, who has a wife and 3 kids that need tickets, he can buy at the 169 plus tax price. But, he can only purchase 6 total, so for his family, he can purchase 5, 4 day tickets. He cannot buy 2 per person to extend his time in the parks... Correct?

The active duty service member can purchase and activate up to six tickets (4 day salute tickets with park hopper or water park/more OR both for an additional fee). If there are five people in his immediate family, then he can buy six tickets, one person can use two of the tickets, the other four people can use the one ticket each and then if they want additional days, they would have to purchase additional MYW or stars and stripes tickets. If purchased at MWR/ITR on base prior to the trip, they can be added to MDE for FP+. I would highly recommend reading the ticket sticky at the top of the Theme Parks board as well, I believe the military tickets are in post #17 (I'm military and have referenced it numerous times). Hope this helps!

One person can use two tickets, but that doesn't help most families, because they can't buy enough for every person to have two.
