My FIL, who will be traveling with us, is retired army, with a form DD214. Does this qualify for military discount? I've read the stickie about tickets and I can't find the answer. Any help??

If he is retired, then yes, you can go with him. However, HE needs to purchase the tickets, not you or your husband. And one of the tickets must be for your father in law. Does he not have a retired ID card?

He told me he has a form DD214. I don't believe he has an actual ID card. At least not that I've ever seen. He says this is a piece of paper and he uses it for discounts at stores, like lowes, that offer military discounts.

If your FIL is retired from the military (served 20 years or more honorably) he would be receiving a monthly military pension, and be entitled to an ID card, DD form 2. This card enumerates his retiree privileges such as Medical, Commissary and MWR. His spouse would be entitled to an ID card, DD form 1173. With this card as ID, he could purchase the military Salute tickets. He could also reserve rooms at Disney resorts with a military discount, under a current offer. If your FIL is qualified for a DD form 2 ID card but doesn't have a currently-dated one for whatever reason, he can get one. I got my ID card renewed recently and it was easy-peasy.

A DD 214 won't be accepted as military ID. Every service veteran is given one, including all those who served but did not retire (as described above). These veterans are, unfortunately, not included in Disney-Military Discount offers, just retirees, spouses and certain 100% Disabled veterans. My neighbor uses his DD 214 at Lowe's on certain days set aside for military vet discounts, also. I use my DD 1173 retired-spouse ID card at Lowe's for military discounts.

Here's a link that shows pictures of the various military retiree ID/access cards for benefits and privileges. http://www.cac.mil/uniformed-services-id-card/

Here's a link to the RAPIDS site locator to get a retiree Military ID card issued: http://www.dmdc.osd.mil/rsl/appj/si...gpxTJcpz-dbvnIHv5wb!1431839674?execution=e1s1

if all he has is a DD214 then he is NOT retired, he is only a veteran.

only AD, drilling reserves/Guard and honorably retired personnel may purchase the Salute to Heroes tickets. these people will have a CAC or other ID card which must be presented in order to buy these tickets.

Thank you for the answers! I didn't think it sounded right because he doesn't have a card. I'm glad I asked!!
