We are just back and used the Military Salute 5 day hoppers at WDW.
We have friends stationed in Jacksonville that came down to stay with us and They were able to buy our passes as they are both active duty.
If you are active duty only the member has to show I.D. and they can buy up to 5 passes at that time. You cannot go back later and purchase additional passes if you don't max out the first time.

These hoppers also activate the finger scan when entering the parks. This gave us fits, as they even scanned the kids and they did not always work like they were supposed to. Honestly I don't think the scanners are activated all the time but work more as a deterrent for ticket swapping, just because of the inconsistency we experienced. We finally complained at City Hall and was told that the children don't have to be scanned and to reset our biometrics the next day as once the passes are used you have to wait 24 hrs. to reset. You really have to keep up with giving your party the right pass and that was something we are not used to.
There were finger scans at each turnstile and I honestly believe that in the future WDW will scan all passes. I know they were only doing AP's, but the Military Salute passes look like any hopper pass (paper) so they definitely have the capability. One more reason not to buy on EBAY.

The member needs the names and birthdates of each Friend/Family member that they are purchasing the $99 hoppers for. We were not prepared for this and had to get this info together.

Everyone does not have to be present when tickets are purchased, just the MM or spouse with I.D.

If you are a reservist, they will ask to see orders at WDW and US.

US had the member write the name of each friend on the passes and sign the passes. They did not ask for Birthdays.

Again at entry you may be asked to sign in and they will compare signatures or they may let you pass through. This was most likely random also.

Thanks for the info. We are going in less than two weeks and I was curious about how they kept track and how the tickets worked. The most interesting thing is this

If you are active duty only the member has to show I.D. and they can buy up to 5 passes at that time. You cannot go back later and purchase additional passes if you don't max out the first time.

Did they have sign or something that says this or were you told this? The reason I ask is my SIL plans on buying three tickets for her and her 2 sons (she's visiting with us) and was hoping when her DH came back from Iraq they could go and get his free ticket and buy two more.

Thanks again for posting this info ;)

Thank you for the info. We will be using the military salute 5 day hopper also! We used the ones they offered last year and my DH had alot of problems w/ the scanner also but they never asked me or the kids to scan our fingers.

do reserves get any type of discounts on resorts or park tickets? if so which ones and who do i contact?

we had to use the finger scan for our 10 day world passes last year (these are a UK Only pass), they are also paper, so I think you may be right that they are moving toward more scanning. Only my dh & I had to scan, not my dd, and we had the same problem on day 2 - no idea which pass belonged to which. We wrote our names on the back after that, which made things much easier!
