Military Rates have me down.

Just checked the current military rates and there is a great deal on the 8 night out of New York for this October. It's around $2000 less than I'm paying for the same cruise next year. Of course I can't afford to go again this year even for less money. However, I'm wondering if I should cancel the one for next year and just hope for a good military rate in the meantime. I could do so much with that extra $2000 and while I do want to go out of New York and I like the cruise itinerary any cruise is better than no cruise.

Has anyone done this successfully? Right now I have a secret porthole room booked on deck 5.

Well, if you hadn't found the Military Rate, would you be happy with the cruise you are on? That is, are you only contemplating switching because now you feel like you're getting less value for your money (in 2017) than you could have in 2016? Pick the cruise you can afford and will enjoy.

I'm a control freak and like what I like. So although I've done a couple of military rate cruises last minute, I wouldn't cancel a room I'm happy about to take a chance on the same cruise, knowing especially with something like a secret porthole that it won't be available.

I've learned to ONLY look at military rates if I'm absolutely taking a cruise in that time frame. Otherwise the what ifs drive me batty (the transAtlantics especially...I'd LOVE to go on one of those on a military rate, but not going to happen anytime soon ).

You cant afford this year right? Im guessing your not happy with what your paying next year? This is why I wont book Dcl without a discount. Its one of the the reasons Im turning away from DCl. I would not be happy if I booked a cruise and then then its discounted, and I could of paid 2k less. If your eligible for discounts on DCL its a tough descision to make....or it used to be for me. Not anymore. Prices have gotten so high that its not a tough choice anymore. No discount no DCL.
