my girlfriend who is active member in the navy is looking to come to Disney with me next year.. It would be her and her three small kids all under the age of 6. What or how would be her best bet to book the trip with a military discount and using the dinning plan.

She needs to call the Disney call center, (1-407-WDISNEY) to book with the military discount and military dining plan. The current room only offer is 40% off a Deluxe property, 35% off of a moderate, or 30% off of a Deluxe. First, decide where you would like to stay. With 5 people in a room, your options are a bit limited. The Port Orleans Riverside, (although that may change after the refurb, I'm not sure) and all deluxe properties can accomodate 5 people. For values, the option is limited to the All Stars Family Suites.

When you call to book your Military room only, they will ask if you would like to add Military dining. Pick which plan you think would work best for you of the three plans available.

If you book a room only, a deposit equal to the amount of the first night is due at booking, with total due at check in. (Or they can hold your room for for up to 7 days before you pay the deposit.), if you add dining then $200 is due as a deposit for your package and the total amount is due 45 days before your trip.

Buy your Military Salute tickets from your girlfriend's ITT on base. Its much faster to go with them in hand then to wait in the line at Shades of Green which takes forever. Tickets are $138 for 4 day Park Hoppers or $165 if you add the Water Park and More option.

What is the "military Dining Plan"? I booked a room using the military discount, however, I did not know anything about a discount for the dining plan.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Liz

Hi Liz! There is no discount on the dining plan, but you may add it to your room only military discounted reservation. That makes it a package without tickets. Non-DVC guests usually have to be doing a Disney room/ticket package, in order to add a dining plan. It's an added perk for the military.

I believe the details are in that first link.

yes
and to state it again, there is NO military dining plan - it is the same exact dining plan as everyone else gets for the same exact cost

Correct, but it will state on your reservation "military dining" when you pull it up and you request "military dining" when you make your room only. Once again, the distinction is that "military room only" and "military dining" make a package without tickets. There is no discount on it, you cannot request "military free dining", it's the same price for everyone, we just have the luxury of adding it without paying for full priced tickets.

We've done it three times in the last 12 months, I LOVE adding dining! :thumbsup2

I'll just go ahead and head a whole slew of other questions off at the pass here. In order to get the Military Room Only discount, which is 30/35/40% off of a value/moderate/deluxe resort on WDW property, either the service member or the spouse must book the room and check in, as they check your ID at the front desk when you check into the hotel. No ID, no discount. The military member his/herself does NOT have to be present on the trip, as long as the spouse is. My daughter and I always go without my husband because he is always deployed when we go, and I use my dependant ID at check in and receive my discount. You CAN book more than one room if you have a group going, under the discount, but once again, if you are the service member/spouse, you must be present when the rest of your party checks in.

If you are a non-spousal dependant, (as an example, if your parent is active duty or retired), you cannot book with a military discount. Member or spouse only.
