Does anyone know if the travel insurance offered by DCL would cover a cancellation because the Coast Guard denied my husband leave and could not go on the cruise?? I'm not talking about a deployment or anything like that, but the vacation request being out right denied. I have called and asked for the insurance policy to be sent to me but it has not arrived and I was wondering if any has ever had this happen or heard of this type of situation. The Coast Guard will only approve vacation leave 30 days before the vacation dates and I am always nervous about putting out all that money and then 30 days before finding out we can't go. It has happened before - on our honeymoon!! I would have ease of mind if I knew if we had to cancel that we could get our money back.

Page 9, Coverage is for: (skip to "e")
"You or a Traveling companion who are on Active Military Duty in the United States Armed Forces: 1) have their personal leave revoked within 10 days prior to departure date (such revokation must be in writing by a superior officer and is not due to war-related situations, invocation of the War Power Act, base or unit mobilization, unit reassignment for any reason, or disciplinary action); or 2) personal reassignment within 10 days prior to the departure date, whether temporary or permanent."

In other words, I still don't have an answer for you if you know THIRTY days out. But if it is 10 days out, you are covered. (???)

I can tell you that my dh is an active duty AF officer and we were scheduled to sail on the Wonder in November. Due to the events of 9/11, my dh was denied leave after we had received our documents. We were able to rebook without penalty. I'm not sure if DCL is still doing this though. Circumstances were a bit different then. Disney didn't rebook us for free without my going up the chain to a supervisor...and many phone calls. (and I did have to pay the extra cost to sail in May as opposed to November)
We did not buy the insurance...and as you can see, it probably would have done no good to do so. Acts of terrorism and war are not covered.

If you want anymore details, just ask.

Hope this helps a little.

Lisa :)

First off thank you taswira for the quote from the insurance policy. It actually was very helpful

I have sent away for a copy of the policy, but it has not arrived yet so I just called Access America, the company that provides the travel insurance for DCL, and what they told me is I would be covered if his leave was denied, as long as it was NOT denied less then 10 days before the cruise. So if his leave is denied or cancelled (and has nothing to do with a war or terrorist attacks) any time before the cruise as long as it is more than 10 days before the depart day I would be able to get my cruise money back using the insurance. So for me I will know 30 day before the cruise if the Coast Guard will grant his leave and if I have a problem I can use the insurance. So they just sold me on the insurance.

Thought I would let the rest of you know what I found out
