MIL wants to bunk in another room! Help?

My MIL is on our reservation bunking with my 3 daughters in one of our category 8 adjoining rooms.(June 2005). Her 18 yr old nephew and his mother(MIL's sister) are supposed to sail with us, but now his mother is cancelling and my MIL says she will bunk with him since he is under 21 and she thinks that someone 21 or over has to be assigned to the cabin. How will that work? How will it affect our reservation, and the other one with the 18 yr old? Can they just drop my MIL from our reservation and then change her sister's name to hers? I wonder how the costs involved. Anyone have any information or experience in this area?

Well, I do believe that the first two people in the cabin are charged at the adult rate so you would owe more money. I do wonder why she thinks that it would be ok to leave three young children without an adult but not the 18 yo? Then again...that's what MIL's are for, right? There would be a charge to change her name on the other cabin. So is it just DH & you in your cabin? If so, why don't you have her nephew switch to the room she is in now & put one of your girls in your room? That could actually save YOU some money since none of your DDs would be charged the adult rate then. This is a bit confusing, isn't it?

I am sorry for not being more clear. Duh, Holly...let me set the scene a little better. My three daughters in the cabin are ages 18, 18, and 15...and we have adjoining rooms. In my room I have a 6 yr old and 10 yr old, myself and my DH. WAIT! Y ou opened my eyes to another problem! If you have to have someone 21 or older in each state room, that would mean I have to change our reservations too and move my husband's or my name over to the other room. OMG if that costs more money that we are already paying I will have heart failure! I need to call my travel agent first thing on Monday. Thank you for your response. Any more thoughts ????

There are only name change fees outside of 30 days - so by your countdown clock you are ok.

If I am reading correctly, your MIL is moving from your children's stateroom to another - so if just depends on what rate your MIL was paying to be in your stateroom. As lbgraves stated, the first two people in the stateroom are charged the adult rate. So you were probably paying for your children as the second adult, and two lower fares as passengers 3 and 4. So, the only difference should be that you will have to pay the higher fare for one of your children.

Yes, that would be what you would need to do if your MIL will not be remaining in the room. One of you will have to probably transfer to that room & that will raise one of the remaining kid's rates in DH & your current stateroom to an adult rate...so this will cost you more money. Even if you stay in your room, one of your DD's rates would be increased to an adult rate since right now the 1st & 2nd persons are your MIL & one DD. Good luck! Any other family going that the nephew could bunk with?

We have alot of people going, but all the rooms are pretty full. Thank you all for your responses! I will have to actually run the numbers on paper after I talk to my travel agent. Would DCL allow the 18 yr old to have his own room?

Rates are based on minimum of 2 in a room (thus the 2 charged as adults as stated above) if the nephew has his own room his cost will rise. Since 2 of your DD's are 18 aren't they already being charged as adults? I'm thinking, if your MIL moves to the nephews room the costs may work out the same -assuming no rebooking fee. Good Luck!

Why don't you give DCL a quick call & ask them the logistics of the minimum age allowed in the room. You shouldn't have to give any other info, just tell them that you are planning a family reunion onboard & need to know that info so that you can make room assignments before making your reservations. Do NOT tell them that you already have a resi since they will then see that you have a TA & probably will not talk to you. Good luck!

Thanks! I will give them a call and do as you advise. From what I can find, it is ok for the two 18 yr. olds (my girls) to be in a room of their own, but the fact that we have my 15 yr old in there too requires someone 21 or older in that room. That was not a problem when my MIL was in that room, just like she was for our last cruise. One person canceling may just cost several of us alot more money. I will get all the info together that I received here and from Disney and present it to my MIL and her sister. Maybe her sister will decide to go after all. Sure would make my life easier. Holly, just keep something in mind...listing names in a room doesn't mean they have to SLEEP in that room.

If I were you, just get the room assignments down on paper as cheaply as you can (within DCL's guidelines), then once you get to the adjoining cabins, do whatever you want sleeping-arrangement-wise.

Wow, this is confusing and has me thinking about when I book our cruise. My DH, my then 7yo and I will be in one room and my three teens in another. They will be 19, 16, and 13. I suppose that I will need to be listed for that room if someone over 21yo has to be in the room with a 13yo. Of course we can sleep however we want.

We sailed the Thanksgiving 04 sailing and booked 2 rooms a cat. 6 and 11 across the hall. We had neighbors sailing with us Hubby, wife MIL and 5 kids. They too got one cat. 6 and 1 cat 11. Here's what we did.......book me in cat. 6 with 1 DD. Booked DW in cat. 11 with one of our DDs and 2 of theirs....cat. 11's are less expensive. Then MIL in a cat. 11 with 3 more and the youngest in the neighbors cat. 6. Once onboard we we dive extra KTTW cards for all who were "really" in a room. DDs loved the cat 11....it was dark and they were able to sleep in while I was able to have my "bloody mary" on the verandah while docking without waking DDs.

That has always worked for us before, since the kids change their minds about where to sleep, but there was always an adult in each room. My MIL usually stays with us if we book on Disney. However, I just thought the room switching thing applied to the rooms within our reservation. My TA always puts the names in a room according to how the prices will fall in our favor. Then we just sleep where we want. I did not realize that my MIL could stay under our reservation and go stay in another cabin. I guess I was thinking it would affect tipping of the cabin steward or they would report there were more people he or she would have to care for than he thought origionally. But of course if my MIL was a paid in full cruiser, I guess she could sleep wherever she wanted and I am sure do right by her cabin steward. It is a bit confusing, but you all are really helping me figure it out. Thank you so much!

The age thing may require juggling. Need to check with Disney. I know some lines like Carnival require someone over age 25 in every cabin......sort of like most rental car companies require you to be 25 to rent. I guess that has to do with the large number of spring break type cruisers they get, guess they had problems when everyone in a cabin was over 18,(and legally an adult) but under 25.....too much partying.

If you do need to list someone over 21 on each room, I would leave MIL where she is and just list you or your DH with the nephew, instead of moving both MIL and one of you. Like everybody else says, then you can switch around however you want once on the ship.

I think the best choice would be to have the travel agent put Dh , 18DD and younger kids in one room, and you in the room with 15 and other 18 year old.
Then when you get there tell the cabin steward how you will be arranged.

you will have to pay the diff between 2nd and 3rd passenger. MIL might get some higher cancelling/rebooking rates then she thought as well so maybe she won't do it. Make sure before she has you jumping to make changes.

I was going to post my question after I'd read more posts BUT my question fits this "theme" a little bit.

Vets of DCL We have two connected cabins with Myself and 2 DDs listed in one and DH and the other 2 DDs in the other. This "some sleep 4" bit is confusing. I did a fake check on the DCL site and made up a family of 4 and requested one of our assigned cabins (For a different cruise) it gave it to us SO I know THAT cabin will sleep four. Will DCL make up one cabin for 4 and allow my DH and I to sleep "alone"?

PLEASE GET BACK TO ME ON THIS!!

Yes, if you ask your stateroom host to make up all four beds in one of the rooms, he will do that. You can ask him to seperate the main bed into twins too.
