I can only offer my personal experience, but maybe its not so uncommon...
My DH and I have been together for 19 years, I have never ever in that amount of time been treated like a member of his parents family. Mostly treated like some sort of sub human species....you know the drill.
Now take my DH's sister for instance, she routinely brings home "fixer uppers"
(she is now 41 btw). The last one was on his way to prison for almost killing a police officer. He did two prison terms while my SIL was "with" him.
I kid you not. My DH parents practically fell over themselves welcoming him, oh, he's such a nice guy, all we want is for her to be happy etc etc etc etc.
It just never occured to them that his cocaine habits, boozing and general propensity for violence was an acceptable reason to not shower him with all the warm and fuzzies they could manage.
I am seen as the threat to "mum", if I dont do something the way she does it I'm ridiculed. Poor Poor hubby, having to live with someone who doesnt do things the "right" way.....
Oh I'm ranting!!!!! so sorry
What I am trying to say is it seems to me that the daughters husbands are often treated like gold whilst the sons wives........well, you get the picture!!
Yay!! Its the weekend
Have a good one!
