Just returned from a run with a friend to visit Tinkerbean (but she was asleep - or more accurately, knocked out from meds!) and drop off her b-day gift in case I don't see her again before Wed. We simply couldn't go home after this aborted trip, so we stopped by ACM and Mike's - their sale flyers for the weekend were ok, not great, but thought we'd take a chance.

Our local Mike's has finally cleaned up and organized their pit of a clearance section and some of the scrapbook stuff we scanned in rang up for a penny! :yay: (We always scan stuff we're interested in, as the price stickers sometimes are higher than the scanned price.)

Some glass heart-shaped pink "pebble" stickers with a nursery theme were one cent. I can't remember the name, but my friend was happy because she has the matching paper. Also, some great chipboard book kits were also ringing up for a penny! They had three styles, the "Laugh" ones scanned at 5.99, but both the "Happy Birthday" and "Love" ones were only one cent each! They come with the chipboard, rings, great stickers and gems, etc. Also got some lovely clearance Marthhhhhhha ribbon for 28 cents a roll.

Such a deal - maybe you all will find some in the store near you...! Good luck!!!

Also - it killed me not to grab one, :crazy2: but they also had a bunch of the Cricut solutions Baseball carts for $19 each.

Wow, you hit a sale, didn't you?

Poor Tinkerbean, that rest should help her with her recovery though.

wow good for you! i had something ring up for a penny on sat and the girl called the mgr over and he said if it rings up a penny that means something's priced wrong. he said it's clearanced for .99- that's how much it is. you want it or not?! kinda like that too!

so good for you guys. you have the *good* michaels!!! i need to shop with you at yours and not mine!

At different store I used to work in, when stuff went to a penny, it meant it was suppose to go to donation. I think Mikes does the same. So you were very lucky to get stuff for a penny. I might try to see if mine has anything at that price. Any one check out Saugus or Peabody for this stuff?

The kid ringing us up never looked up to see what price things were - he just made sure each thing beeped as it scanned. (You bet we were watching the monitor screen to make sure the prices went in matching our earlier scans using the price checkers in the aisles!) Interesting info about the donation - wouldn't have guessed.

We do like that Mike's (and Jo's) have scanners in the store aisles to check prices - it drives me nuts that ACM doesn't have them -- stuff there isn't individually price tagged (this is actually against the law in MA, but they get away with it), and often there aren't current price labels on the shelves. You usually have to flag down an employee with a price gun (ha - good luck with that!) or wait until you get all the way to the register and then wait in line to find a price. Ugh!

Wow! I got some Halloween stamps for a penny once. I'm trying to not spend money, but a penny...I think I can swing a penny!

There have been a lot of threads about Michaels penny priced items on 2Peas lately.

A penny price is the system's way of identifying items that are supposed to be removed from the floor. They aren't supposed to be sold.

In M's case they don't go to donation, they go in the trash. I'm guessing they get manufacturer's credit for unsold merchandise, and as part of the deal M's has to destroy the items. Disney does this too...trash items, BTW. My Mom had to bite her tongue a lot when she worked at the Disney store...hundreds of pins squished in the trash compactor, taking hammers to snowglobes.

If you were allowed to purchase penny items, it means someone didn't do their job, and I wouldn't go looking to hard for other penny items.

The worst was when her store closed...you know all the scenes with figures they had above the displays...Hammered into tiny bits.
