Anyone else have to deal with migrane headaches?

If so, what do you do to cope?

Usually a few excedrine migrane pills and a cold gel eye mask work for me...but not this time.

Curious to know what others do to get rid of them.

Thanks!

Get somewhere quiet, dark and lie down then take my prescription medication - Naramig - if I haven't already been able to take it.

I swear by Imitrex. If you haven't been to the doctor for a prescription, go as soon as you can.

Don't know if they have this in the US.. ADVIL Gel Caps for Migraines... I take two as I feel it coming on and about 10 minutes later I am fine.
Also, if I am out of gelcaps I go to a very dark, very quiet room and lay down until it passes...I sometimes wear gloves also.. the warmth on my hands tends to ease the pain a little.

My DH used to get them all the time. They were worse after exercise (and as a soccer player that wasn't good!). None of the prescription meds worked, and he finally got relief after switching docs and trying something new. He started taking the herb called feverfew. It takes a while to build up in your system, maybe 3 weeks or so. Also, it was recommended that he drink one beer if he felt one was starting. This approach has worked wonders. I recommended it to a friend of mine and it helped her too. Good luck! I know how debilitating they can be.

I've had one for the last couple of hours and spent it in bed in a dark room.
I have darvocet to take for them, but lately that doesn't seem to be helping much. I think I need to go back to the DR for them.

Sometimes I go to the chiropractor and he can help to relieve them.

Sleep is the only way for me to get rid of one, but it's almost impossible to go to sleep when I have a migraine. I take hot, hot, hot baths and submerge my head under the water, with the bathroom light off, curtain pulled. That helps some. My migraines start around my teeth. When I have a slight headache and my teeth start hurting, I take 2 Advil Migraines. That's headed off many big migraines for me. I think the Advil Migraines have something in it to help you sleep too.

Sorry you have a migraine, I hope it goes away soon. Migraine pain is the worst pain I've ever had in my life (not even child birth pain is close to migraine pain).

For migraines, I usually take Advil, put a cold cloth on my forehead, find a dark place to lie down, and don't even think of doing anything strenuous. Activity definately makes them worse. I also drink coke which helps my nausea a little and I have heard that the caffeine can help with the headache pain.

Caffeine will dilate the blood vessels. then help relieve the pressure! I also get them I first try coke, then if no relief fiorinal with codeine, and dark quiet room!

A Coke and a bath is what I do when the drugs don't work.

If DH is around, I ask for a neck rub and he also rubs around my head where it hurts the most. Then just lay in a dark room.

*eeyore hugs* to all migraine sufferers!

I suffered from migraines from age 8. The only thing that cured them was menopause. Other than that I just had to suffer them out.

I'm waiting patiently for menopause. :(

Not even sleep makes mine go away... they go away when they are good and ready to. To help with the pain, I use ice packs a lot. I used to use Vicodin or Fiorinal with Codeine, but they no longer work and my doctor is hesitant to give me anything stronger... so ice it is.

BTW, read the labels of your Excedrin for migraines and compare it to regular excedrin and then compare the price. They are the exact same drug preparations (at least last time I looked), but often they charge more for the Excedrin for migraines.

I take Maxalt-mlt. Dr prescribed it. I love it. My migraine goes away so fast . The medicine disolves on your tongue. It makes me a little sleepy. I take a short nap and when I wake up, my pain is gone.:D

I have suffered for about 25 years with migraines. This last year my doctor started me taking Toprol XL (25 mg) on a daily basis. I hardly get a migraine now! On the rare ocassion I do get one, Maxalt wipes it right out! I am so grateful for the breakthrus in medicine regarding migraines!

How old are you when menopause finally starts? in the mid 40's? I have over 8 yrs left!!!!!
