Migraines and Fluorescent lights

Hello DISers!
I haven’t posted on this board before, but just realized my question I posted to resorts might get a better answer here.

My 10 year old son gets debilitating migraines. They are controlled well at home as long as he is on his preventative but his primary trigger is fluorescent lights. He does have a set of glasses he wears that filter out the wavelength and that does mitigate it somewhat but not completely.

I am trying to find out what kind of light bulbs are used in the resort rooms, specifically All Star Music family suites. If they are CFL this will not work. I can probably find a way to pack some other light bulbs in our luggage. Or is this something Disney can accommodate by changing our light bulbs? I really have no idea. This is a new issue that has cropped up since our last Disney trip and I completely forgot about it until this evening. We don’t have a lot of time to figure it out either as we fly in next Saturday. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!

I would contact Disability Services at (407) 560-2547 or email disability.services@disneyparks.com and ask them to specifically check with the Resort for you.

Or, you can have lamps/bulbs delivered from Amazon Prime to the resort if needed. And for a final idea, you could Uber/Lyft to a local WalMart and just grab a couple of these inexpensive stick lamps and some bulbs, and just leave them behind when you fly home.

I can't say for certain, but here is an older thread that indicated many are CFLs. Someone on that thread also indicates they were changing to LED as bulbs burned out -- so if that's true, I would think many (if not most) are now LED. https://www.disboards.com/threads/disney-resort-room-light-bulbs.3575051/ You might try checking with Disability Services.

Enjoy your vacation!

Oh crap, that stinks for me - LED is the worst light for my migraines! I'll be bringing my own replacement bulbs next trip, just in case!

Thank you for the help! The disability services line was super helpful. She verified they no longer have any fluorescent lights in the rooms at ASM. I don’t know if it is Disney-wide or if they are changing them out resort by resort, but we should be fine. I intend to bring his Thermospec glasses for the airport/flight anyway and will check the light fixtures personally when we arrive, but I feel much better about it now.
