Okay, the short story is that we have an opportunity to move to England for a year or more, and we already have a big family (grandparents included) trip to Disney planned for Sept this year.

I don't even know where to start. Thankfully, I only have purchased our flights to get there from STL, and we'll be able to cancel (with Southwest) and use the credits for other stuff....

We would be moving to Molesworth. Our dates as of now are Fri Sept 23- Monday Oct 3, though they are a bit flexible to make costs more bearable.

It stinks to be a crazy planner and feel so lost!!!! I had it all ready to go, but this sure makes things more complex :scared1:

Any help/suggestions/thoughts are appreciated. Looking for what airlines are the best bets, which airports are the best to leave from, what I should expect for the cost to be (judging by right now, it will be around $1K per person, but I don't know if that is typical or what would be a "good deal"), etc etc. We are not picky about flying direct. Our girls are used to traveling, so we're pretty easy to please that way. I decided that it would be smart to come over here and at least start looking at what I would need to know/do to make this happen if it goes that way. I'm a bit of a control freak that way :goodvibes

Hi! There are some flight experts on here who will be along to help you I'm sure, but I'll be the first to offer some advise. Most people on this board fly with Virgin Atlantic direct from Manchester or London Gatwick into MCO, I think you would be looking at around £500 - £600 per person with them, so about $800-$900 I think? That is pretty typical for orlando flights now-a-days. British Airways are popular for direct MCO flgihts too, I booked with them for May direct from Gatwick to MCO for £425, about $690, which would be considered a 'good deal', but they can be just as expensive as Virgin Atlantic. It's all about shopping around really!Websites like Sky Scanner and Net Flights are good for comparing prices.

A very quick search(Kayak.co.uk) around those dates is showing indirect flights at £536($862) or direct £618($994)

When you are ready for booking post again and will do a more detailed search see if we can find anything better.
There are some Charter flights with Monarch direct into Sanford under £500pp but many prefer to fly Scheduled.

Thanks. That was sweet of you to check.....I've looked at this type of stuff...I'm more wondering what is typical because even though I know what is out there now, i'm not sure what is normal or good or high or what, kwim?

I'm pretty savy with searching and all of that, just need the info on best websites to use, best airlines to keep and eye on, what a decent price is, best airports to fly out of and all the stuff that I know absolutely NOTHING about ;) This way when I'm ready and see a deal, I'll know to jump on it!

Appreciate the help so far, thanks!

Those seem to be about the norm for Sept now, a couple of years ago they were peak time(August, Xmas, Easter) prices but now they are off peak prices, I suspect best prices were months ago just after they were released but I haven't been following Sept prices. Just watch for sales and hope you see a bargain.
A few sites to watch,
Kayak.co.uk
travelsupermarket.com
skyscanner.net
Good luck & post if you want help searching.

I think everyone has covered the flight info.

But I wanted to say, if you ever have any UK based questions (not sure how much time you've spent over here, so sorry if its loads!) then feel free to ask away.

Must be daunting to move so far. We're a friendly bunch over here, so someone will always be around to help. :)

We have some friends who did a tour of duty at Molesworth before moving on to near Stuttgart. They found the easiest airport to get to was Heathrow where they tended to get to Florida (their home is McDill, Tampa) using direct flights to Miami then driving up.
As well as existing schedules from British Airways (& American) and Virgin, Delta are now flying direct LHR to MIA and seem reasonably priced.

this won't help you with your upcoming trip i don't think, but if you're planning any other trips to WDW during the time you're living in the UK keep in mind there are some really great deals to be had....

the WDW park tickets sold to UK residents are much better (well - better bang for the buck, especially if you use the water parks and disney quest)...
and there are some great onsite package deals for UK residents (through disney UK)...especially for free dining..

Thanks again to all of you. As a follow up, I thought I would post here in case anyone ever did a search on Sept flights or something.

We are now officially living in the UK :) for a couple of years. We've only been here for a few days, so it's quite overwhelming, but I know that in a couple of weeks, I'll be much better with it all.

I found flights through USAirways out of LHR (which is a closer/more convenient airport to where we are). We are not flying direct, which suits us just fine. The total cost for the four of us (2 adults and 2 kids) was 1900 pounds. I'm super happy with that, and will stop looking so that I don't notice if they go lower :)

Now.....onto dealing with the best way to get to the airport :thumbsup2. Always planning something!! :yay:

Glad you found a price you are happy with. Enjoy your stay here.:thumbsup2
