After taking a break the last couple years, we're booking a 2 BR at BCV for spring 2018. Even though we're veteran DVC'rs, I can't remember the pros and cons of a lock-off vs. a dedicated room and would appreciate any advice. There will be 4 adults and we'd prefer a pool view (can't find an option on the website to request upper floor and pool view though).

Thanks for your help.

A lock off will have a queen and a sofabed in the second bedroom. A dedicated will have two queen beds.

The lock-off is a studio & 1-bedroom with an interior connecting door and both rooms have doors to the hallway. Some people prefer not to get a lock-off if there will be small children sleeping in the 2nd bedroom (studio) because of the door out of the unit. If adults will be using the 2nd bedroom, the studio could be treated as their own room since it does have it's own exit and also includes a kitchenette.

I agree with this completely. For four adults, I'd get a lock-off if available. Separate entryways and you can either open the connecting door or just be "neighbors" at various times. Also, separate thermostats! The only downside to the lock-off is the second bedroom will have less storage. But for just one couple it should be plenty.

Thanks so much for the helpful advice. I knew I'd get the info I needed on these boards. Decision has been made: 2 BR lock-off so 2nd couple can enjoy having their own small living area. :thanks:

How often is a request for lock-off fulfilled? I am assuming the number of lock-offs usually is greater than dedicated since it gives DVD more flexibility, so getting a lock-off should be less of an issue.

At resorts were both dedicated & lock-off 2-bedrooms are available, they are separate booking categories. If the room type just says 2-bedroom, it's a dedicated. The lock-off category includes 'lock-off' in the room type.

Lock-off needs to be booked, it's a category, not a request. And lock-offs are composed of a studio and a 1BR. Once the studios fill there are no more lock-offs so it's actually more difficult to book them as the booking window goes on.

That will make it easier. I am assuming the capacity will still be what a dedicated 2-bedroom is, not additive of an 1-bedroom & a studio (ie: 5 plus 5), right?

Kind of different but not exactly. At VGF it is different (9 vs 10) and VWL and BCV (8 vs 9) - essentially it's the same though as the 2BR still allows the extra without a bed but when it's a lock-off I believe the "extra" goes away and total occupancy only equals total beds (except the toddler under 3).
