Midday Break : Offsite (Emerald Island)

Hey folks, we will have our 4.5 year old with us next March and will likely be doing midday breaks.

How feasible is this to get Offsite with Minivan???

Stories appreciated, especially if they involve approximate times to the Island and back.

About 20 min each way.

Head towards A. Kingdom entrance BUT keep in LEFT Lane to Head towards Hwy 192

You will be on Serberth Rd ( ? ) ....... Cross over Hwy 192 and after approx 3/4 mile

Turn RIGHT ( at X roads ) . Emerald Islands will be on your Left

No problem at all. We've stayed at Orbit One, Windsor Palms, Lindfields, etc. and almost always do a mid-day break. It takes just as long to get to most offsite places as it does to get back to the onsite Disney hotels using their transportation. In fact, it's often faster to get to the offsite places with your own car.

Sweet that's what I was hoping for. I have been onsite a number of times and have found transport slow. Before ME we rented a car and found ourselves using it onsite more than the buses. It was just faster. When looking at the map it seems like Emerald is closer to some of the parks than some of the onsite resorts.

When looking at the map it seems like Emerald is closer to some of the parks than some of the onsite resorts.

Absolutely. This is why the whole onsite-offsite debate is so ridiculous. It is very possible to be closer to the parks by staying offsite. I've timed our drive from Orbit One to Animal Kingdom. It took 4-1/2 minutes. Let me see you get from any Disney hotel to the park in under 5 minutes.

Sherberth Road is a great route to know as it lets you avoid I-4 and parts of 192 (depends where you're going). Is it always faster? No. Depends on time of day and traffic volume and where you are starting from on property. If you're at Disney Springs, I wouldn't drive all through property to get to Sherberth Road. I would just hop on I-4 from there. If you're closer to that end of property, though, it's usually the best option.
