In checking Naitonal's rates for my dates May 29-June 7, a mid dize SUV is $20 less than an intermediate car to rent? How can that be?

For those who have rented an mid size SUV thru Natl., what model have you received.

The most likely model you'll get would be a Chevy Equinox. Other possibilities would be Jeep Liberty and (I think) Saturn Vue.

I had just such a reservation last month, because the SUV was less expensive than the intermediate. As it turns out, there were no mid-size SUVs in the lot, so I took a Rendezvous from the Emerald Aisle.

*Why* is the pricing like this? I can only guess that more renters are getting smaller vehicles these days with higher gas prices, so the demand for SUVs has gone down. Yield management says the response is to lower the price.

Oh, I didn't even think about the gas prices being a factor!

Well, we're coming in to MCO on Memorial Day late aft, so I'm guess there will be slim pickins no matter what I choose.

Might as well go with the lower price.

We had an midsize SUV reserved with Alamo and as the previous poster said we ended up with a Buick Rendevous. Nice vehicle to drive, but what a gas guzzler. Overspent our budget we had alotted for gas by about $30.00.

I reserved an intermediate car from the Emerald Aisle last fall, but drove away in a Pontiac Torrent, which is another GM midsize SUV. I really enjoyed driving it, but I wouldn't consider it particularly roomy for passengers or cargo.

We had a Midsize SUV rented through Alamo 2 weeks ago and when we got there at 11am, there wasn't one left in Nationals or Alamo's lot. We drove out with a GMC Envoy off the Emerald Aisle. It wasn't too bad on gas. We drove all around Orlando, to Tampa, St. Pete's and back, Daytona, Ormand Beach and back, and Lake City (2.5 hrs north) and back and only used 2 full tanks of gas. Of course it took $45 to fill it up, but at least gas prices were still down. :)
