Mid-January - what do you think?

Considering 5 days on site at DL Resort Jan 12-17th. My assumptions are the benefits of going during this time are lower crowds, cheaper on site hotel rate , and nice weather?

Assume the cons would be shorter hours and more rehabs? What would you expect to be closed during this time ?

Any other thoughts welcome !

We're pretty much locked in to January 25-30 next year. The only other concern could be rain. I guess we'll bring panchos, right?

We have a 4-year old, so the shorter hours aren't an issue. He wouldn't make it an entire day in the summer anyway, so the hours aren't an issue. Hotel costs don't look to be too terrible, but the on-property hotels are still too high for our liking. We're looking forward to the cooler weather. Also a little concerned about rides being down, but not much you can do about that.

What dates are you looking at? If you're around MLK weekend, it could be fairly crowded.

Haunted Mansion and It's a Small World would probably be down. Maybe Splash Mountain.

I know they are also going to be sprucing up various dark rides this Winter so I'm guessing at least one of those could be down.

Possible rain, this year January weather was in the mid 80's all month. Even if it does rain, weekdays in January are the best as far as crowds go!

that is the time we also like to go.

We were there in Jan 2012 (before carsland was opened) and we had low crowds and excellent weather. We were in California Jan 15-22. MLK day was Monday January 16.
We went to DLR Jan 17, 18, 20 (Tues, Wed, Fri) and had very very low crowds. lots of rides were walk on.

weather was nice. just needed a sweater for the evenings.

only rainy day we had was on Saturday. We were at universal that day, but the rain wasn't that bad, and most attractions are inside, so it was fine.

we are in knotts on MLK day (Monday). We only had a couple rides with long lines. other rides were short. and on Thursday we went to seaworld and it was fairly empty. no waits for anything.

its a great time to go.

It's just been announced that the MLK weekend (15-18) is the new Star Wars half marathon weekend. I would expect on site and walking distance hotels to sell out quickly. Rates might increase, too.

I was at DLR for MLK weekend this past January and found crowds low on Thursday and Friday. Things started to get crowded Friday night and stayed that way until I left on Monday.

That particular weekend will be pretty busy due to the marathon. As mentioned, several rides will be down as they change from holiday overlays back to normal, not to mention last minute refurbs getting ready for the 60th. You would be better off picking a non holiday weekend at the end of jan or beginning of feb for low crowds /higher change more rides will be open.

Yeah, I bet hotels will be booking up very quickly. For the heck of it I searched the Desert Inn (where we are staying in February) and it looks like Friday night, January 16th, is already sold out for their regular rooms.
