I was playing around today looking at air fare from Boston to MCO in January to see approximate prices ~ we are going on a Disney Cruise in January 2007 and wanted to get an idea of $$$ ~ I thought the prices seemed pretty high ~ many of the flights on Song for example were $199 and up each way (only one flight each way was under $100) Anyone have any insight as to why the prices seemed so high? Is it just because I'm looking at Jan 2006 and it's so close the prices have steadily been increasing or is this what I can expect for mid January rates? TIA :sunny:

Can you fly out of Manchester in NH? They have $59 one way flights for mid-January. Just FYI :)

We paid $75 each way on Delta for January 2006, but we bought our tickets in July. I just checked and found flights from the Boston area to the Orlando area in January 2006 for $148, so the same price as we paid in July. The low fares are clearly available. How are you looking for flights?

hmmm...maybe I'm missing something. I checked Expedia, flysong.com, JetBlue, Southwest and the flights I saw were a bit higher than $148 RT(with the exception of Jet Blue ~ I found going down for $39 but the return flight was higher). I was checking 1/13 - 1/21 (the dates we will need Jan 2007) ~ it's just to get an idea of how much money I will need to budget for airfare.

Thanks for the replies.

I assume you meant January 2006, as January 2007 isn't available yet.

I was checking 1/14-1/20. Let me check (on Travelocity) again with your dates.

$147 round trip on Delta.

I think the key is being flexible with regard to which flights. If you're choosing your flights, rather than allowing the booking engine choose the flights, then of course you're going to pay more -- much more. Discounted seats are offered on the flights that are least likely to fill otherwise, and this close to our trips (we'll be there the same week as you, just arriving a day later and staying only six day), many of the discounted seats have already been taken (we've got two of them! :) ).

thanks, bicker. It's good to know that discounted seats will (hopefully :) )be available for that time period. I guess I'll just need to keep checking as soon as those dates open up. I just didn't know if the $$$ I kept seeing was the norm for mid January
