Traveling at Mardi Gras to the world and staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge. The normal rooms, not DVC. My father in law needs a microwave for his cancer medication in the mornings. Is it possible to get a microwave in a regular room.

I think you might want to ask this is the Resorts forum. There is usually a thread dedicated to each resort.

My gut feeling is that you might only have a chance at a microwave if you go to The Mara every morning. Or you can call AKL directly. The number is 407-938-3000.

Or, ask on the DisAbility boards. They've got tons of good info.
Good luck to your dad.

I believe that Disney would be accommodating for such a concern. They used to provide fridges for those needing it due to medication before this became standard. I'm going to move this over to our DISabilities forum to see if others have any further info.

I don't know the medication in question but I would call ahead to ensure that a standard microwave is available. I don't think that I would heat something like medicine in a food court microwave - they tend to be higher power than our standard home microwaves.

If Disney flat out can't accommodate you I think I would arrange a Wal-Mart stop and just purchase an inexpensive dorm type microwave before I would take a chance on unknown wattage in a microwave.

Hope you have a good trip! Travelling with cancer can have some challenges depending on the medication he is on but it is so worth it to spend the time doing something fun with family!

If it is a non-food item of is chemotherapy, I would not heat it in the food court.
First, there is too much possibility of the item you are heating becoming contaminated from things that might not be clean when they heat them.

Second would be concern for his item possibly leaving some residue in the microwave that could be possibly harmful to others .

And, then the microwave power issue that PatsMom brought up.

If you can just buy an inexpensive microwave, that might be the best solution.

I would also check with the treatment facility or his pharmacist regarding whether there are alternate ways to heat it. They have probably run into situation where people were traveling with no access to a microwave.

You should not microwave non-food items in a food microwave as their is a chance it could later contaminate someone's food and make them sick or worse.
