Saw a great price online $79 if you give them student ID and email address - can this only be used by one person or could both my children use it? I saw Walmart has a package for $119 that 3 students could use. Trying to save money during these expensive teen years!

Ask at a local college bookstore. They have an educational license and sell licensed copies to be used for education. I got my children's for $19 each, I think. I just use open office because I don't meet the qualification for a student copy.

Free software that mimics Microsoft. It is compatable. If someone sends you a microsoft document you can open it with Open Office. Likewise your documents can be opened in Microsoft. It is free. I learned about it from my college kid.

openoffice.org

If it's the one that's from Microsoft's website for students, you can put it on 2 or 3 computers. You should be able to find the terms and conditions on the website though. Double check those; I got the student edition this winter.

This is correct, at least when I purchased it in Jan/Feb of this year (I got a new desktop). Now, as I remember it, it is a digital copy that you download onto your system. However, you can purchase a disc for some amount of money, which I did.

Open Office is an open source program that works like Microsoft Office. The documents can be opened in each other so you can go back and forth. It is slightly different, but it doesn't take too long to figure it out. I use Open Office on my old system which I have turned into a linux box.

definitely check your college or school's bookstore.

HEre we have Office 2010 (the top of the line edition) for $15.

Win 7 ultimate for $14.

Heck, I can even get Adobe CS5 Master edition for under $525.

I will check out college bookstore - if they don't have it, where do I get Microsoft open?

Seconding checking the college bookstore..but just a warning I had to jump through hoops to get my copy of office/student. It was only 10.00 but I can only purchase it one time ever and had to have student id number and drivers license and copy of class schedule that showed I had a class that needed the program. But well worth it to get it at discount price :)

My college computer store sells a "student license" version of Microsoft Office, but it's $99, and it can only be used on 1 computer. A few years ago, it was a "normal" license, in that it could be used on 3 computers, but they've changed it. Read the terms VERY carefully.

No luck at our bookstore - it's $100 per computer. How do I go about getting the Microsoft open?
